Loved the book, there were so many surprises along the bends and it’s great to watch all the characters grow. Looking forward to the next one, and she’d better retrieve that lost Prince for a neat figure of 5

I understand why this is a literary classic, and an important one at that. Read as a philosophical essay on the dangers of communistic and socialist values gone too far, how to subdue a population, free spreads, though and even Stockholm syndrome them into not only doing the one in powers bidding but to loving them in working twords their own demise. Very powerful food for thought, an an awful alternate reality that parallels the daily happenings frighteningly often.

Incredible sci fi tale with almost denser world building then lord of the rings, yet somehow I got through the book just fine. the most interesting parts either happened with the naitives interacting with the main characters or better yet, in the main characters head. I could see dune by the discription and imagine the hardships and the mysticism the peoples there faced. Glad I finally got around to reading dune, although I’m far from done with this world and I’ll return to arrakis soon to see the legend of muad’dib unfold further.
Very fanfinction.net esque faerie adventure with a delicious enemies to lovers plot full of twists and turns, many unexpected. Excited to read the sequel.
Very cozy and comfy little book about a man with low self esteem but a great deal of love for children who ultimately finds love for himself in the very beings he is cautioned against.
Cheezy humor but a nice flat comfort read, practially slice of life with but with an orphanage of super powered children.

Super edgy spy flick with hints of attraction between the characters, but of course they never act on them. Lot's of plotting and sneaking around and setup for the next book. Unexpected turns were taken, and the ending had me shook >:(
I thought I knew where the ending was going, and then I didn't. Lot's of twists and turns, finally the love confessions, some transformations and lots of fights and betrayals, both of the mind and on the battlefield. It was a satisfying conclusion to what ended up feeling like an epic fantasy, i just wish the romance was in play more honestly.
I had a really hard time reading this book. It was a horrifying read honestly, mostly because it parallels so many events currently happening in the world that are similair. I read this right as roe v wade was being executed in the USA, and seeing the rights of women be taken in so suddenly and so drasticly really gave this book an edge. I had to take frequent breaks in between reads because the topics were felt very heavy to me. It's a book I feel everyone should read once, as a warning for the potential threath religion, sexism, racism and bigotry could potentially result in if we don't keep fighting for out rights. It's a world I'd never want to live in, and yet it's one I seem to read about in the news more and more.
This lil book gave me exactly what I was missing during the folk of air trilogy, a look into Cardan’s mind. All during the other books I wondered what his true feelings about Jude were, when the shift from hatred to love started happening, and just his perspective on events. This filled the gaps wonderfully. I enjoyed the short stories that gave more context, and the illustrations added a sense of life to it. Short but enjoyable read.
Absolutely Amazing. I was expecting something different then the typical fantasy romance, but the amount of shook I was with this book was a whole lot.
In the beginning I couldn’t really get into reading it because I couldn’t take the book seriously. Every time I read a sentence I heard Xiran Jay Zhao’s snarky voice echoing the words, and every time I’d start laughing. Ive been following her on YouTube and Twitter for a while now, and always loved her dead pan delivery and ability to meme the hell out of everything, especially social injustices. But once I got through that and the mech and animeness of it all I really got into Zeitians story.
She led a horrible horrible life, with all the sexism and all the worst social norms of being a female thrust onto her. Her family treats her as if she’s a burden and abused her daily. I was horrified by the lotus feet but impressed to finally be reading about a character with a disability who didn’t let it control her, it was a part of her but not all she is. Yizhi was a sweet touch to soften up the hardness, and it all felt very typical savior boy whisks her away to safety. But avenging her sister and saving the other girls was a battle needed to be fought and I respect her for being able to risk it all to change the system and take out those who have wronged her.
But instead of the typical girl gets saved, becomes hero, boy gets the girl, everyone is happy, we got a girl meets boy, runs away from boy to meet another boy, kills that boy, gets forced to meet another boy people hope will kill her, girl meets first boy again and finally gets to love him and be together, third boy doesn’t kill her and instead they learn more about each other, understand each other, and finally fall in love. And then boy number one and three also fall in love and it’s a throuple. Oh yeah and then boy number three dies and the girl takes over the world. (But also they’re aliens on the planet and boy number three is still alive but leverage)
Can I just talk about the polyamory tho. Like bro it was fucking amazing. While I did know there was something queer about the book I didn’t expect a full love triangle between them to happen, but I’m so glad it did. Love is infinite, and it was written so dang beautifully. Everyone was soft and tender to each other even though they’re all very strong, vengeful and brash to others. Loved the duality of it all.
The whole dystopian city with robots fighting metallic hunduns (evil cousins of Morris) was a cool setting, and while I did expect the gods to just be humans in space ships, I didn’t expect them to be on a whole other planet and the invaders, which is such a cool twist.
All in all an amazing action packed story with lots of twists and turns, I was all for the vengeance, and although people died it all felt very deserved. I wish Zetian all the best in her endevour to get Shimin back and finally save the girls and take out all the injustice against female, to figure out who the gods are, and I want her and Shimin and Yizhi to be a happy terrifying couple at the top of the world.
