Lakewood is a unique read about medical experimentation on black people that allows the read to feed into conspiracy theories. However, it does come with many receipts/facts, like Tuskegee Experiment. It tackles several issues: black people needing to prove themselves more than whites in the work force, lack of believability with symptoms in medical care, stereotypes, preying on weakness/needs, and not respecting privacy. This book has a few layers,long, but yet fast paced, but still took a long time. It is part of a 4 book series. I enjoyed the plot and the back story of the immortals. Unique, but the theft is so wrong. It was heart breaking and sad at times, and exciting and made me mad at others. I think David is lousy at covering is tracks and makes too many rash decisions. And so selfish despite, him trying to not be. The cabin scene was uncalled for. Great book, well written, if you have the time I so recommend reading. I picked up The Getaway at my local library and am so happy I did. It was unique and creative. Saying something w/o saying something. It was so well written and gives you many themes to chew on. I only hope the world gets it's act together because this book has too many relatable aspects. The characters scream YA, but definitely need be mature to read and grasp the concepts. Goes to show you rich people only look out for their own self interest and even then their in a hierarchy. Also money can get you just about anything, but at some point there are consequences. I wonder if the known is better than the unknown. Guess if there is a book 2 we will find out. I would definitely be up for reading it. Check out my Youtube channel to see more thoughts.

This was a cute story set in a unique holiday location. I would love to travel aboard a yacht for the Christmas. Story was quick with a cute ending. Hannah's cowardice mother pissed me off and the sad story of the brother's death and Hannah's job are touching. James and Hannah are childish. Nice story.

No Gods, No Monsters shows monsters are real, but I hate they are all called monsters. Monsters normally have a horrific connotation, and not everyone in this book is bad. That you know of. This book had a whole slew of characters, and it takes forever (last few chapters) to figure out how they connect to each other. I was confused often and had to keep looking back at character names to keep story lines straight. This book is told very intellectually and at times was over my head. It was slow going because of that and it took away from some of my enjoyment. I felt the book was very suspenseful, had some really creepy parts, and was a huge set up for the next book. I wasn't satisfied with the ending of this book, but it did have reveals and a temporary resolution. I don't think I am vested enough for the next book, whenever it comes out. I would not suggest starting this series unless you plan to continue. But it does have a good plot line.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is a well researched book covering a variety of topics, well beyond Henrietta Lacks and Hela cells. I learned a lot and am happy I finally read this book full of information that the average person should know and appreciate. So many injustices, some never corrected, and never will. I wish we were able to know more about Henrietta, but I feel so much as already been taken from her and her family, that maybe it is fitting not to disclose any more. White Fragility does a fantastic job of presenting the systemic racism prevalent in our society and the biasness that I don't think will ever go away. As someone that frequently deals with white people and has attempted to speak about race, I feel exactly as DiAngelo has stated. That white people want to shut me up, avoid the conversation, and immediately make the conversation about how they are cool with black people and are not biased. I hate having to downplay that I am offended because I really want to say. "I wasn't talking about you. The fact that you even turned the conversation about you means you have some insecurity that you need to figure out." I have recently attempted to stop bothering. I have also picked up another book: Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge. These are great to read together. I am extremely frustrated with the white people in my life. I would be pleased if this book would be presented in schools. But I think if the school system attempted to even bring it up, it would be challenged to be banned. I appreciate a white person acknowledging there is a problem and seeking to change. That is more that an be said for the average white people in my life. I discussed this book on my Youtube channel.

I received this book as an ARC via #NetGalley. This book has an amazing cover, but I was not blown away by the inside. I thought it was drawn out with so many details. Every little thing was stated to the point of annoyance. I was in suspense in until the end of the 2nd part, then kind of lost interest except wanting to know about Kurt. I figured out what was going on with her early on. Good plot.

Krampus is a fantastic dark fantasy. I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and all the folklore involved.
It was so in depth that you can tell Brom did a lot of research. While I didn't agree with Krampus, I felt the sad emotions. And I really felt bad for the demasculation of Jesse, although he does need to get a pair. This book was executed perfectly. The right mix of holiday tidings, drama, fantasy, scifi, and action. There were many shockers too that I didn't see coming, including all the violence. Well done.

Finding Me gave me not only insight into this amazing woman, but also into the world. It also validating a lot of feelings I have as a black woman. I love how she spoke about poverty, racism, trauma, domestic abuse, and sex abuse. All so relevant; she got me in my feelings. And the receipts she gives about Hollywood are eye opening. I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. And I highly suggest listening to the audio book. You hear the passion in her truth. Black women, even dark ones, are beautiful. Black men need to recognize.
