**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Raw Redemption is the fourth book in the adult suspense series, called Crossing the Line by Tessa Bailey. Each of the books can be read as standalones, and I tested that theory because I am new to this series. Raw Redemption is a little bit different than a lot of the books I lean towards. It felt darker than most I read, and it was. But it was a keep you on the edge of your seat book. One that I really enjoyed.

Raw Redemption is the story of one time cop, Henrik and Ailish. Henrik is the strong and very intense type. Raw Redemption is not what I would calla light and fluffy book. It is dark and gritty and really action packed. Know that going in. I wouldn't bring this book to the pool. I would read it at night in bed, under covers when I wanted an action/adventure fix. It took a little bit of time for me to fall into the groove of the story because when we start Ailish is already on the run, and Henrik is already no longer a cop, but we don't have a 100% clear picture as to why either of those things happened. You have to find them out in time. I liked the confusion, but at the same time I do kind of wish I had those answers up front. I think it would have helped me to form a connection with the characters faster.

I will say this, I had no problem picking up with this book. It reads as a standalone. If you like your romances with a dark edge, Raw Redemption is a great book for you. Fans of epic chase scenes and running from bad guys will also really enjoy the tension that Tessa Bailey worked into the plot of this story so well. She really is an excellent writer.

Bottom line: Raw Redemption is not a summer beach read, but it is a great read. One that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Perfect for fans of thrillers.

Going Under is a new adult contemporary romance (with a college football player, main character- so maybe sports romance) and is the third book in the Blackhawk Boys series by Lexi Ryan. Going Under can be read as a standalone novel. I have not read the first two books in the series, but I am dying to now considering how much I adored this book. I completely fell in love with Going Under. I have been craving a true new adult college romance story for so long, but I haven't found anything that quite fit the bill. But Going Under was perfect! I love the whole childhood friend's brother aspect, I love a pseudo second chance romance and I love a good emotional backstory.

I really enjoyed the dual narrative in Going Under, between Sebastian and Alex. I was itching to find out what happened to Alex with her scars, and why on earth Sebastian has kept his distance for this long. I knew from the start it couldn't just be because Alex was "off limits" according to her brothers. Lexi Ryan does an excellent job weaving in the details of their pasts, along with creating a delicious tension between the two of them in the present. I could not get enough of their romance and of the story. I loved it. Going Under is probably my favorite college new adult romance I have read in a long while.

Alex has four very over protective brothers that have been shielding her from guys her whole life. Pretty typical, but I really liked that Alex was also a car fanatic. I thought this was a nice blending of the overly protective brother device and the just one of the guys device. Alex was interestingly unique in her own way. I can totally see why she captured the eye of Sebastian in high school. I really liked that most of the story takes place with the two of them at the same college. That is my very favorite setting for a new adult story, and Going Under has left me itching for more. I really loved this one. If anyone has read either of the first two books in the series, please let me know because I loved Going Under and if either of them are half as good, I need to be reading them as well.

Bottom line: Going Under is new adult romance done right. If you are a fan of the off limits romance, the best friends' sister trope or just sports romances in general you will love Alex and Sebastian. They totally stole my heart. Lexi Ryan never disappoints and I think Going Under might be my favorite book I have read from her yet!

I See you is a new adult standalone contemporary romance by Molly McAdams. I have not read any of Molly's other books, but when I heard that she was the "queen of the love triangle" and that I See you was "... one of the most memorable love triangles in fiction since Twilight" I was super pumped. I knew I had to check it out. I really enjoy a good love triangle. And here is the thing- I really liked I See You. I thought the romance was beautiful and emotional and very, very moving. And I liked the love triangle....but it was not my favorite love triangle in the world. Don't get me wrong though, overall, I See You was a very good read.

The story is told in multiple points of view and multiple timelines. The story reverts back and forth between the present and a past event that helped to shape and form the love triangle. I didn't mind the narration style at all. I found it to be an interesting way to lay out both timelines and I didn't have any problem following along. My favorite part of this story was Aurora herself. I thought she was an excellent main character and she felt completely genuine to me. And any fool could see her bond with Jentry. The love triangle in question is between two brothers- Jentry and Declan. The interesting twist in this story is that Aurora had one night with Jentry when he was a complete stranger and had no idea he was Declan's brother until he comes home much later, when she is already dating Declan. This was a take on a love triangle that felt a little bit different to me and I enjoyed that.

What I didn't love was the actual love triangle itself. It felt a little too one sided to me. I wanted a little more of an equal playing field between the guys. I like to not know initial which way the love triangle is going to end up. I liked the back and forth and internal dialogue and struggle of the main character. And sometimes I even like to start on one side of the triangle and be swayed over to the other side. (is that weird?) That being said, I still thought the story was well done, the characters were interesting and it was very well written. Plus, I See You also has one of my most hated characters of 2016 in it- the boys mother. Oh my gosh, I would not be sad if that woman met a very untimely end. She is such a witch.

Bottom line: If you are a fan of love triangles in New Adult you should definitely check out I See You by Molly McAdams. I enjoyed the story and I have heard so many amazing things about some of her other novels, like Taking Chances, that I know now I need to check them out! (and I will!) I see You was a very good book. It was not my favorite love triangle ever because it felt a bit doomed from the start, and I like a little bit more back and forth, but I still really enjoyed the romance in this one. (and I yes, I was totally on one side of the love triangle...I am not going to tell you which.)

My Thoughts

Four Letter Word is the first book in the contemporary romance series, Dirty Deeds by author J. Daniels.I freakin' loved Four Letter Word. (on a side note, this is the second book I have read in a week where the guy character loves crosswords puzzles. It is so adorable in a way I didn't even know existed. Brian makes me want to buy a puzzle book, because maybe some hot guy will start texting me asking me to help him solve clues. ) Either way, Four Letter Word easily makes my favorite books of 2016 list. Brian and Sydney are explosive and hilarious and fantastic together. This is the was my first book by J. Daniels and I am already hooked. She drew me into this story so much so I was actually was waiting for the next text just like Syd and Brian. I neglected my actual phone while reading Four Letter Word. And that is really saying something.

four-letter-word-quote-graphic-2

Four Letter Word is told in dual narrative between Brian and Sydney. I knew their interaction would start off with a mistaken phone call where Syd lets into the guy she thinks screwed over her best friend, but hot damn. I didn't really think she would let into Brian like she did. I mean, she really let him have it. It was hilarious. And I loved that it was that crazy phone call that has Brian hooked enough to want to text her the next day. And the rest, as they say is history. four-letter-word-quote-graphic-1

What I loved about Four Letter Word were the close run-ins they kept having. I know it is not the most predictable situation in the world. You dial a wrong number. and then the person on the other end of the line hits it off with you...and you both happen to be in the same town. but man, oh man was it fun to read about. I had a blast with Four Letter Word. I loved watching Brian and Sydney get to know each other. Their conversations were all kinds of cute and adorable. It made this book the fantastic read that it is. four-letter-word-quote-graphic-3-2

Bottom line: I don't know what it is about Four Letter Word but the combination of the situation, the characters and the writing make this book a smash hit for me. My cheeks actually hurt from smiling so much while reading Four Letter Word. It brought me back to the start of an exciting relationship. In the getting to know you phase. It is just super exhilarating and exciting. This book made me happy. I can't recommend it enough. My only question now is, which J. Daniels book should I read next? Because I need more.

**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Hit the Spot is the second book in the contemporary romance series, Dirty Deeds by author J. Daniels.I freakin' loved Four Letter Word, the first book in the series. In fact, Four Letter Word easily makes my favorite books of 2016 list. Brian and Sydney are explosive and hilarious and fantastic together. So I knew that I needed, not wanted, NEEDED to read Hit the Spot when it came out. I loved Jamie from Four Letter Word. I loved how determined he was to win over Legs, I mean, Tori.

I am so hooked on this series. J. Daniels is a new favorite author of mine, after reading just two of her books. She drew me into this story so much. She has a way of making a romance seem dirty and sweet at the same time. It is something you have to read to understand. She writes about fantastically flawed and deliciously complex characters. Jamie was all at once a jerk and a total sweetheart. And to be both of those things and come off completely genuine, as both, is not an easy feat. That takes a talented writer. I loved Tori and Jamie's story. About as much as I loved Brian and Syd. (Please don't make me pick which couple I like more...because I can't! I just can't!)

Hit the Spot is another favorite read of 2016 for me. The Dirty Deeds series is easily one of my very favorite series reads of the year. It is perfection in book form. It is sassy, it is sweet, and it the heat level and chemistry level between the couples is off the charts! For real. The only thing I can say about critically the book is that I was momentarily disappointed in Jamie near the start of the story. He had been so adamantly and single focused on getting her to go out with him, that I thought he flipped a switch to call her crazy way to quickly, when something happened. (see the spoiler if you want to know what it was.)
When she bumped into him in the parking lot. She did not run him over with her car! Yes, she should have been paying more attention, but she tapped him. And for him to have known her for almost a year, and liked her for just as long to think that she seriously wanted to hurt him was a little bit silly in my opinion. But maybe that is just me. I felt like he should know her better than that.

I am a sucker for a story involving a bet, and I loved the tension created by the bet in Hit the Spot. It was exactly what I love about great new adult romances. So what was the bet? "You want to bet that you will want to have sex with me before I will try and have sex with you." Umm, yes! That sounds like the perfect bet to ensure there are tons of URST, flirting galore, some teasing and tons of fun! And that is just what Hit the Spot had. And it had it in Spades. I freakin' loved this book!

Bottom line: I don't know what it is about the Dirty Deeds series but the combination of the situations, the characters and the writing make this book a smash hit for me. My cheeks actually hurt from smiling , swooning and fanning myself from reading Hit the Spot. It is just super exhilarating and exciting. This book made me happy. I can't recommend it enough. Both Four Letter Word and Hit the Spot are some of the best books I have read this year! My only question now is, which J. Daniels book should I read next? Because I need more. **You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Hooked is an adult contemporary sports romance by author Brenda Rothert. I love a good sports romance but the tag line for this book is what hooked me in. ;) "a sultry novel featuring a brooding NHL player who’s hell on skates—and the no-nonsense woman who forces him to clean up his act." I love a good brooding male character and a no nonsense woman. Hooked was right up my alley for a good whipping into shape romance. I got such a kick out of Miranda and Jake. Jake needed a Miranda in his life badly. Hooked is the first book I have read by Brenda, but it certainly will not be the last. I really liked Hooked.

Miranda made me snort, laugh out loud and chuckle non-stop throughout Hooked. I just loved her quick comebacks. She seemed to be the only one to knock Jake off his game. And he desperately needed that in his life. He was quick on his way to being a jerkwad, and we can't have that. With Miranda's help be became the swoony great guy that I knew he could be. I loved the witty dialogue and banter between Jake and Miranda most. It was my favorite park of Hooked.

Not only does Hooked have excellent character chemistry, and a steamy swoonworthy romance full of tons of great banter, but it also have a really great character development journey for Jake. I loved that. Yes, there is a drama, flirting and tons of romance, but there is a also some really excellent growth on his part. And that was a really nice bonus. I think this is a must read for fans of hockey romances. Miranda will make you laugh when she puts Jake in his place time and time again, and Jake will win your heart- even if you don't think he will initially. Hooked really impressed me. I can't wait to read more by Brenda Rothert.

My Thoughts

Trying Sophie is the first book in the adult contemporary sports romance, Dubline Rugby series by author Rebecca Norinne. I have never read any of Rebecca's books, but I can't pass up a book set in Dublin with Rugby players. One of my favorite sports romance series of all time features a rugby team (by L.H. Cosway & Penny Reid) so I couldn't pass up the first book in a new rugby romance series. And I am super glad that I read Trying Sophie. This was a spicy and sweet sports romance that gave me all the feels and made me super happy while reading it.

Trying Sophie is told in dual narrative between Sophie and Declan's points of view. I loved this aspect of the story. I think it works extremely well in a contemporary romance because it gives you the opportunity to really get to know each character. I love seeing Declan's motivations, backstory and feelings. I loved seeing Sophie's too but I feel sometimes I like seeing the guys point of view even more than the woman's. This is one of those times. Declan and Sophie knew each other as kids, during that pick on the the girl you like phase. Let's just say that Declan's antics impacted Sophie and not in a good way, so when they meet up again as adults, eve though their attraction and chemistry is pretty immediately apparent, another kind of sparks fly. I loved their whole back and forth. Heck, just loved them!

Not only was the romance in Trying Sophie great, but the whole cast of characters were delightful. I loved Sophie's grandparents and I really loved Declan's team mates. I can't wait to read the next books in the series. I can't wait to see all of the teammates stories.

Bottom line: If you are a Rugby fan, or a fan of Penny Reid's rugby series, you will really enjoyed the Dublin Rugby romances. I loved Trying Sophie and it has made me very excited to continue on in the series. Trying Sophie has a romance that is both sweet and spicy, with lots of heart and delightful moments, plus you will fall in love with the whole cast of characters. Trying Sophie was a big win for me.

Dead Girls Society is a young adult mystery/thriller from Michelle Krys. I cannot say enough good things about this book. It gave me all the feels, suspicions, and creeps. It is not often that a ookey spooky story with a secret society can also surprise me with its’ twists, turns and big surprises. I love it when I can’t figure out a whodunnit in a book! It doesn’t happen too often, but I am always super excited when it does happen. And it happened in Dead Girls Society, which in and of itself is enough to make me love it.

Dead Girl Society follows a group of girls at a high school. Each of the girls gets a letter inviting them to play a game of dares. The prize promises to be something each of the girls desperately needs. Right away, I loved this take on a secret society. It wasn’t the traditional boarding school setting and it wasn’t the tradition hazing process. It was a single elimination challenge. every couple of days, and each time one girl is forced to leave the game. But those that advance, are rewarded. I loved getting to see why everyone was invited to participate and seeing their own backstory and what it was they were hoping to gain from winning. It was kind of like the Saw movies, but a young adult version with all girls. Mixed with a little bit of Pretty Little Liars, A action.

I really enjoyed Hope. She is very sick (with Cystic Fibrosis) and her mom doesn’t even want her leaving the house. Hope has a lot to prove, not only to others, but also to herself. I liked that the challenges were also about testing her limits and seeing what she can do. But what I loved most about Hope was her inquisitive nature. She really wanted to solve the mystery as to who is behind the letters. She was not ok with having all the other girls bend to the whims of a mystery person. There is also a little bit of romance in Dead Girls Society. I thought it blended in nicely with the storyline, but in no means overpowered the mystery element. The romance was secondary, but I did enjoy it. (and it too was surprising.)

I both loved, and dreaded, seeing what the next dare was going to be. You get to know, and to love, each of the girls, and I hated seeing them faced with their biggest fears, and I really hated seeing anything happen to any of them. The person behind this one was a crazy for sure. I am beyond intrigued to see if there is going to be anything more in this world. I could see this going one of two ways. The ending left it totally open for the possibility of a sequel (a totally fricken awesome one, I might add!) but even with that ending, I can also see this working as a standalone. I hope there is more however because the setting for the next book would be super cool!

NA ReviewMy Thoughts

Being Brooke is a hilarious New Adult romantic comedy by Emma Hart. I loved this book. It completely cracked me up, and put me in a great mood. Brooke is hilarious. She is quite the character, and she can certainly dish it out...to everyone, including her best friend Cain. Unfortunately she can't follow her own Life Tip #1, "Don't fall in love with your best friend." Which is great for me, because I happen to love best friends romances. And Being Brooke is probably the best romantic comedy I have read all year. It was certainly one of the funniest books I have read all year. If you like Romantic comedies you have to check this one out.

Brooke totally cracked me up from the first page to the last page. I couldn't get enough of her. I loved listening to her inner dialogues and I really loved her interactions with Cain. They were both hilarious and sweet. I am such a sucker for a friends turned romance story. It just melts my heart every time. And if you can add humor and banter, well, then you really will make me fal lin love. I'm keeping this review short because I dpon't want to be too gushy. (it was actually about 3 paragraphs longer, but when I was re-reading it I realized I was just either repeating myself over and over again or writing down lines that cracked me up. So I decided to take all that out, and leave it at my final takeaway...)

Bottom line: If you like romantic comedies, you need to read Being Brooke. Like yesterday. The romance is great and the writing and characters will have your jaw hurting from all the laughing. This book literally made me laugh out loud. And that is a winner in my book. It is one of my favorite romantic comedies of 2016.

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is a young adult time travel romance by Rachel Harris. It is also the first book in a series of the same name. I was really excited about My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century when it first came out in 2012, but I never got around to reading it. Now, almost 5 years later, I am kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century was tons of fun, and was actually really, really romantic. (It also ends on a HUGE cliffhanger, which I will not be talking about, but never fear because the next books are out now.)

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is Cat's awesome story about her trip to Italy for her 16th birthday. Cat is a huge fan of everything Italian, especially the painters and sculptors, so she gladly accepts her father's "pity" trip, but things get really interesting when she enters a gypsy tent in the middle of the street and leaves the tent in the middle of 16th century Italy. I will say one thing about the whole time travel set up. I didn't really get it. We didn't really get too much of a reason and I still wasn't entirely sure by the end of the story. I am sure this will be fully resolved with the next books, but either way, I went with it while reading, and I loved the journey Cat went on. Cat is a great character. I loved watching her adjust to all the differences she encountered. She cracked me up because she certainly wasn't a model 16th century citizen. I loved that though. The writing and characters felt authentic. And Cat, try as she might was not a 16th century teenager. She is a 21st century teenager. And she acted like one.

I loved seeing the Italian renaissance come to life all around Cat. I was a history major and the Renaissance was always one of my favorite time periods. But don't worry, you don't need to be a history buff to be able to enjoy this story. It is all very easy to follow and super vivid so you will know just what Rachel Harris is describing. My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is not only a really fun adventure, but it is also a pretty awesome romance. And maybe awesome is not the right word, because this romance was swoony and romantic and everything you picture a true courtship to be. Romances like this just don't seem to exist in real life anymore. I ate it all up. I loved it, and I am both excited and dreading to see what is going to come of it.

Bottom line: If you have not read My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century yet, you should! It is equal parts fun Italian adventure in the past, comedy and a really sweet heartfelt romance. I really enjoyed this story. I loved the setting, the romance, the characters and all of it really. And one thing is for sure, after that cliffhanger, I NEED the next book ASAP.
