Hit the Spot
by J. Daniels
**You can see this full review and more at Book Briefs: https://bookbriefs.net**Hit the Spot is the second book in the contemporary romance series, Dirty Deeds by author J. Daniels.I freakin' loved Four Letter Word, the first book in the series. In fact, Four Letter Word easily makes my favorite books of 2016 list. Brian and Sydney are explosive and hilarious and fantastic together. So I knew that I needed, not wanted, NEEDED to read Hit the Spot when it came out. I loved Jamie from Four Letter Word. I loved how determined he was to win over Legs, I mean, Tori.
I am so hooked on this series. J. Daniels is a new favorite author of mine, after reading just two of her books. She drew me into this story so much. She has a way of making a romance seem dirty and sweet at the same time. It is something you have to read to understand. She writes about fantastically flawed and deliciously complex characters. Jamie was all at once a jerk and a total sweetheart. And to be both of those things and come off completely genuine, as both, is not an easy feat. That takes a talented writer. I loved Tori and Jamie's story. About as much as I loved Brian and Syd. (Please don't make me pick which couple I like more...because I can't! I just can't!)
Hit the Spot is another favorite read of 2016 for me. The Dirty Deeds series is easily one of my very favorite series reads of the year. It is perfection in book form. It is sassy, it is sweet, and it the heat level and chemistry level between the couples is off the charts! For real. The only thing I can say about critically the book is that I was momentarily disappointed in Jamie near the start of the story. He had been so adamantly and single focused on getting her to go out with him, that I thought he flipped a switch to call her crazy way to quickly, when something happened. (see the spoiler if you want to know what it was.)When she bumped into him in the parking lot. She did not run him over with her car! Yes, she should have been paying more attention, but she tapped him. And for him to have known her for almost a year, and liked her for just as long to think that she seriously wanted to hurt him was a little bit silly in my opinion. But maybe that is just me. I felt like he should know her better than that.
I am a sucker for a story involving a bet, and I loved the tension created by the bet in Hit the Spot. It was exactly what I love about great new adult romances. So what was the bet? "You want to bet that you will want to have sex with me before I will try and have sex with you." Umm, yes! That sounds like the perfect bet to ensure there are tons of URST, flirting galore, some teasing and tons of fun! And that is just what Hit the Spot had. And it had it in Spades. I freakin' loved this book!
Bottom line: I don't know what it is about the Dirty Deeds series but the combination of the situations, the characters and the writing make this book a smash hit for me. My cheeks actually hurt from smiling , swooning and fanning myself from reading Hit the Spot. It is just super exhilarating and exciting. This book made me happy. I can't recommend it enough. Both Four Letter Word and Hit the Spot are some of the best books I have read this year! My only question now is, which J. Daniels book should I read next? Because I need more.
