I See you is a new adult standalone contemporary romance by Molly McAdams. I have not read any of Molly's other books, but when I heard that she was the "queen of the love triangle" and that I See you was "... one of the most memorable love triangles in fiction since Twilight" I was super pumped. I knew I had to check it out. I really enjoy a good love triangle. And here is the thing- I really liked I See You. I thought the romance was beautiful and emotional and very, very moving. And I liked the love triangle....but it was not my favorite love triangle in the world. Don't get me wrong though, overall, I See You was a very good read.
The story is told in multiple points of view and multiple timelines. The story reverts back and forth between the present and a past event that helped to shape and form the love triangle. I didn't mind the narration style at all. I found it to be an interesting way to lay out both timelines and I didn't have any problem following along. My favorite part of this story was Aurora herself. I thought she was an excellent main character and she felt completely genuine to me. And any fool could see her bond with Jentry. The love triangle in question is between two brothers- Jentry and Declan. The interesting twist in this story is that Aurora had one night with Jentry when he was a complete stranger and had no idea he was Declan's brother until he comes home much later, when she is already dating Declan. This was a take on a love triangle that felt a little bit different to me and I enjoyed that.
What I didn't love was the actual love triangle itself. It felt a little too one sided to me. I wanted a little more of an equal playing field between the guys. I like to not know initial which way the love triangle is going to end up. I liked the back and forth and internal dialogue and struggle of the main character. And sometimes I even like to start on one side of the triangle and be swayed over to the other side. (is that weird?) That being said, I still thought the story was well done, the characters were interesting and it was very well written. Plus, I See You also has one of my most hated characters of 2016 in it- the boys mother. Oh my gosh, I would not be sad if that woman met a very untimely end. She is such a witch.
Bottom line: If you are a fan of love triangles in New Adult you should definitely check out I See You by Molly McAdams. I enjoyed the story and I have heard so many amazing things about some of her other novels, like Taking Chances, that I know now I need to check them out! (and I will!) I see You was a very good book. It was not my favorite love triangle ever because it felt a bit doomed from the start, and I like a little bit more back and forth, but I still really enjoyed the romance in this one. (and I yes, I was totally on one side of the love triangle...I am not going to tell you which.)
