My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is a young adult time travel romance by Rachel Harris. It is also the first book in a series of the same name. I was really excited about My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century when it first came out in 2012, but I never got around to reading it. Now, almost 5 years later, I am kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century was tons of fun, and was actually really, really romantic. (It also ends on a HUGE cliffhanger, which I will not be talking about, but never fear because the next books are out now.)

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is Cat's awesome story about her trip to Italy for her 16th birthday. Cat is a huge fan of everything Italian, especially the painters and sculptors, so she gladly accepts her father's "pity" trip, but things get really interesting when she enters a gypsy tent in the middle of the street and leaves the tent in the middle of 16th century Italy. I will say one thing about the whole time travel set up. I didn't really get it. We didn't really get too much of a reason and I still wasn't entirely sure by the end of the story. I am sure this will be fully resolved with the next books, but either way, I went with it while reading, and I loved the journey Cat went on. Cat is a great character. I loved watching her adjust to all the differences she encountered. She cracked me up because she certainly wasn't a model 16th century citizen. I loved that though. The writing and characters felt authentic. And Cat, try as she might was not a 16th century teenager. She is a 21st century teenager. And she acted like one.

I loved seeing the Italian renaissance come to life all around Cat. I was a history major and the Renaissance was always one of my favorite time periods. But don't worry, you don't need to be a history buff to be able to enjoy this story. It is all very easy to follow and super vivid so you will know just what Rachel Harris is describing. My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is not only a really fun adventure, but it is also a pretty awesome romance. And maybe awesome is not the right word, because this romance was swoony and romantic and everything you picture a true courtship to be. Romances like this just don't seem to exist in real life anymore. I ate it all up. I loved it, and I am both excited and dreading to see what is going to come of it.

Bottom line: If you have not read My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century yet, you should! It is equal parts fun Italian adventure in the past, comedy and a really sweet heartfelt romance. I really enjoyed this story. I loved the setting, the romance, the characters and all of it really. And one thing is for sure, after that cliffhanger, I NEED the next book ASAP.
