Don’t get me wrong, I love Connors videos. But this book just felt like it was written for someone younger than me. I was just not connecting with it at all. The poetry was very tumblr and instapoet and I didn’t connect with it. It felt like I was stuck in a conversation with someone who was really passionate about something that I just didn’t care about but you have to stand there and smile and wait for them to stop.

Rudy knows exactly what he’s doing. His poetic language and metaphors are truly top tier. His poems tackle subjects like race, gender, masculinity, and anxiety. So many killer lines and stanzas. He also has a few shorter poems in this collection that put “instapoets” to shame. He knows how to do them right. This is the first book I’ve read that I felt totally comfortable highlighting in because I knew I’d want to go back to those parts. Definitely going to have to get his second book. I'm so glad I read this book.

This was such a cute book! The emails between Henry and Alex were so adorable. I loved how Henry and Alex’s personalities complimented each other. They’re so cute together. June and Nora were also really cool characters and I’m glad we got to know a little bit about them and their personalities. It was so heartwarming to see Henry and Alex grow more comfortable with themselves and their sexuality in the relationship. The book touches on politics and gerrymandering and corruption  but it doesn’t go into too much detail since it’s a romance book first and foremost. Really cute and sweet with a happy ending that might have been really unrealistic but we’ll give it a pass since the book was so cute. I would describe this as a comfort read.

First time reading The Bell Jar and Plaths poetry. I loved the story and reading from the perspective of a woman during that time. I liked that the character wasn’t necessarily likable the whole time. I will definitely be coming back to some of those poems. I loved the lines that were just straight up wacky.

I feel like I might have gotten more out of this book if I had seen the storytellers live. You could see their voices in the stories though. I really liked the story from the writer for SNL, it was cool to see the behind the scenes of that. Some of these stories will break your heart, some will make you laugh, and some will make you furious.

Really good look at cancel culture from the perspective of women of color. I like how they addressed how people are treated differently depending on how dark their skin is, like how white passing black people are treated differently than non white passing black people. They also addressed the complicated situation of someone getting popular for doing a cover of someone else’s song and the dimensions of that. The characters aren’t likable right away but you eventually care about them and what happens next.

So so cute! I love how in Hibbert’s books the characters have their own flaws that they work on independently from their love interests. Eve was such a lovable character and you just wanted to see her be proud of herself. Jacob was blunt and sweet under the surface. I could relate to both the characters fears in relationships. I loved their honesty with each other.

I could hear the whole book in his voice. Such good information about climate change, farming, politics, and roadtripping. It was fun to read about Nick’s relationships with his friends and his wife. My favorite part was reading about him and Megan watching the couple dancing.

The poems were super sweet, I’ll have to go back and mark the ones I liked. I loved how much she talked about nature in these love poems. Made me feel all fuzzy inside.

I was disappointed with this book. This book was published when “Instapoetry” was really popular so many of the poems were very short. The vast majority of the poems are about mourning the loss of a relationship that turned toxic because of religious beliefs. The poems could have done with more show and less tell and I feel that would have helped make them better. I feel like the poems being longer would have helped too. There were a handful of poems that weren’t about her past relationship and I really liked the one about being bisexual. Overall didn’t feel like I gained anything by reading this.
