» PLOT «
Tiffy and Leon both need the money, and left with few choices, they decide to share a flat and everything it comes with, even the bed. Since Leon works night shifts, they never see each other, but they still need to communicate, so they leave Post-It's behind and communicate through them. Despite being very different, Tiffy and Leon become friends and develop close relations, without ever meeting each other.

I was really intrigued and excited for the plot and I wasn't disappointed, but I'm not satisfied.

The central romance was a slow burn, especially since Leon starts the book with a parter and Tiffy just got out of a relationship. The romance didn't really stick out to me. There was nothing that made me want to root for the romance or the couple.

Something that felt really unrealistic was the fact that
everyone got a happy ending. (Holly is healthy, JW and Mr. Prior reunited, Mo and Gerty are in a relationship, Richie got out of jail, and Tiffy and Leon ended up together)
.

Also, what happened to Justin's fiance? or Tiffy's therapist? They were rarely mentioned, but they just disappeared later on in the book. We never hear from them again (other than the 1-2 times they were mentioned).

I also didn't like it when, at the end,
Richie had to give exposition about Tiffy's non-engagement
. It felt really info-dumpy, and it pulled me out of the story.

However, I liked some of the banter between Tiffy and Leon. And there were genuine times where I want to continue reading and find out what happened. (Like when,
Justin proposed to Tiffy and she "said" yes.
)

» READABILITY «
This book was medium paced, any slower and I wouldn't have liked it. The book really didn't keep me engaged, I only finished the book so that I could move on. The moments where I wanted to continue to binge the book was rare.

» CHARACTERS «
My biggest gripe with the characters is with Tiffy and Gerty.

For Tiffy, why was it necessary for her to be eccentric and unique? This is most likely just me, but it give me Hazel, from [b:Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating|40189670|Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating|Christina Lauren|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1526941489l/40189670._SY75_.jpg|60023585] vibes, and I really didn't like the characterization of Hazel.

As for Gerty, you'd expect a person's best friend to be more considerate and open to their friend's feelings and actions. Even if your friend made (what you believe) a bad choice, you'd at least question them before you berate them for things you don't know about. (Which she didn't, because Tiffy purposefully separated Justin and Gerty from each other.)

However, the characterization of each person was good. They all were unique in their own ways, and had flaws too. I loved that Justin's actions and behavior continued to affect Tiffy, even after they broke up. And I loved that it took time for Tiffy to move on, even from a man like Justin.

» WRITING «
The writing styles for Tiffy's and Leon's perspectives were different. Tiffy's was more traditional, thus slower to get through. While Leon's was more direct, and faster paced. It was definitely easy to get through Leon's perspective, but the best part was the notes. What can I say, I'm a big fan of multi-media books.

» OVERALL «
The book was okay, but not special enough for me to recommend to others. Also not special or good enough for me to want to reread.

Bailey is moving to the west coast, to the exact town her online friend, Alex lives. Doubting her decision, since they've never met or seen each other, Bailey doesn't tell Alex that she's in town. Unknowingly, she gets a job at the local museum where Alex also works as a security guard at. Except, he doesn't go by Alex. To everyone, including Bailey, he is Porter, the beautiful, cocky, curly-haired boy. They should be friends, but when they start off on a bad introduction, they quickly become enemies.

Contrary to the synopsis, this really isn't an enemies-to-lovers. Much like [b:Red, White & Royal Blue|41150487|Red, White & Royal Blue|Casey McQuiston|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1566742512l/41150487._SY75_.jpg|61657690], the enemies part

» READABILITY «
This book was medium paced, and easy to read. I read this book in one session, mainly because it was easy for me to do so. and not just because I couldn't stop.

» CHARACTERS «
I liked the two main characters, and there really wasn't anyone in the book that I didn't like. There is a clear semi-antagonist that was less likeable, but I honestly didn't care for him.

» WRITING «
The writing is pretty average, not too flowery, but not too plain.

I really like this book, but I don't love it. I'm not gushing over it.

» PLOT «
Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have five daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. With no immediate heir to Mr. Bennet's estate in their family, Mrs. Bennet is desperate to marry off her daughters into advantageous marriages.

Yes, this is it. Not only do we get Elizabeth and Darcy's enemies to lovers, we also get glances at Jane and Bingley as well as Charlotte and Collins. Three different marriages, three different stories, each with a different focus.

Despite a lot of people, and Elizabeth, not liking Charlotte and Collins, I felt like it was a good and solid choice, as well as a great addition. It really contrasted Elizabeth from Charlotte (as well as Jane).

» READABILITY «
I started this book traditionally, but I absolutely loved the audiobook (available on YouTube) last year, so I continued with that again. Again, it made the book so much easier to digest and so much more enjoyable.

» CHARACTERS «
I absolutely adore every character in this book, except for Lydia and Wickham (for obvious reasons). Special love goes to Jane and Bingley though.

Each character is consistent and purposeful, (even Mrs. Bennet, who may seem wishy-washy).

» WRITING «
This book was written a while ago, so the language isn't super easy to understand. But despite this, now I have come to appreciate the writing.

» OVERALL «
Something I want to mention, the book and the movie is so much better (for me) when I knew the plot already. I couldn't have enjoyed the movie (2005 version) if I hadn't read the book, and I couldn't have enjoyed the book if I hadn't already got a sense of the plot via Wikipedia and the past read.

If you want to know more about the audiobook, I really raved about in the text below this (my old review).

Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have five daughters: Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty, and Lydia. With no immediate heir to Mr. Bennet's estate in their family, Mrs. Bennet is desperate to marry off her daughters into advantageous marriages.

I will say this, the plot of this book is fantastic. I love the story.

One thing I didn't like was the diction and writing style. Jane Austen's writing is not my favorite. I prefer simpler books because I don't really read to dissect plot or writing, I read for escapism.

I read the first 25%ish with just the physical book, and was I not required to read this book for a school assignment, would've most likely DNFed this book way before that. I finished the rest of the book with an audiobook and thank god for Karen Savage because I don't think I could've ever enjoyed this book without her. The audiobook makes the story so much easier to understand when each and every word is spoken out loud.

I also have to say this; I spoiled the plot for myself by reading the Wikipedia article. Again, thank god I did because it too, was the reason I finished this book (and why it got a 5 for plot).

Overall, I love the plot and story, but it was not enjoyable to finish without an audiobook. The one I used was free on YouTube, if anyone wants to listen to it. The narrator does such a good job (even though there were some inconsistencies) and I would highly recommend reading this book with the audiobook if you can't read it the traditional way.

Alice and Ella have been on the run for a long time, never really settling in any location for that long of a time. After finally settling, Alice's mother, Ella, is kidnapped. Desperate to find the only person left in her family, Alice follows the mysterious clues left behind by the characters of the fictional world of Hinterland, a creation of her grandmother's.

The second half of the book kind of reminded me of [b:The Looking Glass Wars|44170|The Looking Glass Wars (The Looking Glass Wars, #1)|Frank Beddor|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1354845928l/44170._SX50_.jpg|918951]. Despite this, the second half of the book was better than the first half.

I really wanted to like this book, but this book and my busy schedule put me in a reading slump. I have also come to the conclusion that I'd like a little more clarity and light-heartedness when it comes to books, and this book was neither.

» READABILITY «
This book put me in a reading slump and I had to get the audiobook for me to be able to finish it.

» CHARACTERS «
I didn't like any of the characters. None of them were likeable or realistic, and I thought all of them were stupid and had bad motivations.

» WRITING «
The writing was okay, nothing special. There were some lines that were nonsensical metaphors but otherwise, it was okay.

» OVERALL «
I can see why people would like this book, and it got better over time, but this book was not a good book for me at this point in time. I'm honestly just glad to have finished the book and I doubt I will be revisiting this series for a long time.

» PLOT «
Jack "June" O'Donnell and Saul Angert's families have been in a feud for nearly 4 generations. Every time something bad has happened to the Angerts, something bad also happens to the O'Donnells. Their families spend all of the lives avoiding each other, but after literally colliding with Saul, their lives become intertwined. As their connection grows over time, they embark on a mission to find out why their families are in a feud and whether or not their curse can be broken.

The first half of the book was really focused on the meeting/relationship of June and Saul, while the second half was dedicated to their families and the curse(s). I personally preferred the first half, it featured the characters more than the plot/curse.

I think the plotline was very loose and not well planned. It wasn't really satisfying, and I found myself skipping certain parts to get more character interactions and such.

» READABILITY «
This book was really easy to read in the beginning, but toward the end, I found myself skimming some of the pages. The pacing was okay, ranging from slow to medium.

» CHARACTERS «
I like the two main characters and their friends, but other than them, I didn't like anyone else. The family feud was literally just perpetuated by the fact that
nobody in their families communicated with anyone at all. This story was created by the fact that nobody thought to inform their children about anything. And you can say that they were trying to protect their children from death, but after 4 generations, you'd think they'd try and do something about their curses or even just try anything else but keep secrets
.

» WRITING «
The writing was good, but I found myself skipping some parts.

While reading this book, I had a great time. But now that it's been a few days, this book is good, but not 5 star great. confusion

» PLOT «
Amidst a time war, two rivals, Red and Blue, start to communicate with each other. Despite the risk they take to do so, they spark up a connection deeper than they though they would.

If you want a true story with a focus on plot or world building, don't look here. While there is a storyline/plot, this book clearly focuses on the writing and prose.

Usually with an audiobook, I can comprehend the book much better, but in this case the physical book might've been the better choice.

» READABILITY «
I read with an audiobook, and it was short and quick.

» CHARACTERS «
Despite the two narrators of the audiobook, I really couldn't tell the two main characters apart (personality wise) until the end.

Typically, with non-plot focused books, as long as the characters are good, I can end up really liking the book. But in this case, neither the plot or the characters were anything particularly good or special for me.

» WRITING «
Like I said before, the prose between the two is the highlight of the book. However, without a good plot or a good character, it does nothing for me.

» OVERALL «
My overall thoughts of this book can be summed in what Kat wrote:

"this book has some truly gorgeous words and the yearning between red and blue is on point, but sci fi and my brain are like oil and water & i was ✨confusion✨ for most of the story"

» PLOT «
Following the disappearance of her mother, Clary discovers that her mother used to be a part of a secret organization of demon hunters. Desperate to find her mother, Clary is thrust into the Shadowhunter world and into the lives of Jace, Alec, and Isabelle as she is attacked. Suddenly, Clary must figure out her mother's secrets and why it's been hidden from her.

I loosely knew the plot, so that may've made me more salty than necessary, but some of the storylines are so obvious. Other plot lines are weirdly unexplained.

» READABILITY «
The book was easy to read, I just happened to be busy. The first half was better than the second though.

» CHARACTERS «
I an a character-driven book kind of gal, but I hate all of the characters in this book (except Magnus and Isabelle). Halfway through the book I switched from liking Simon to wishing he would leave the story. I also began to realize how dumb Clary is. Jace is unexplainable. Alec is rude, but redeemable.

I know some of the plot points in the future books, so I'm sticking this one through to the next few books.

» WRITING «
The writing is average, nothing too bad or too good. Nothing special.

Summary:
Ollie and Will had an amazing summer romance, and just as summer is ending, they are about to separate to opposite sides of the country. But as Ollie's sick aunt brings them to the town next to Will's, Ollie has a chance to spend more time with Will. The only problem is that no one knows he is gay. As Ollie grapples with the fact that Will is scared of coming out, he can't help but consider whether his relationship is worth it.

What I Liked:
I LOVE that around the end, the main character, Ollie, stood up for himself against Will. So often we see love interests bend and mold themselves for the other, but I loved how Ollie spoke his mind and actually had a conversation with Will about his feelings and why things
weren't working
.

What I Didn't Like:
I honestly did like the story, but I feel like the romance and the feelings Will and Ollie had for each other didn't really translate well. I really didn't feel like there was much of a genuine connection. Again, being the bitch I am, I liked it when Ollie
decided to end things with Will.
I felt that conversation was the most impactful, and brought the most emotion out of me.

Overall:
I mostly read romances because I feel like I can put myself in the story and actually feel something. Turns out, the heartbreak and the pain is what I like. Yikes.

Kyle and Kimberly have been in a relationship for 6 years, but following their high school graduation, Kimberly breaks up with him. Before he has any time to register this, a car accident occurs and the next think he knows, Kimberly is dead and life isn't the same anymore. Stuck with a brain injury and with no one that can relate to him, Kyle then meets Marley. As they both grappled through their grief, they form an instant connection. But just as Kyle thinks his life is about to be patched up, his life comes crashing down again, and this time, he might not be able to fix it.

I don't properly read synopses, so I didn't see it coming. I really should've though.
The part where it turns out, the year with Marley was all a dream. I was wondering why it was so fast paced, but then it was reveled that it was only 8 weeks and in a dream. I liked this part, since the relationship with Marley seem really fast and insta-love like.

This was both faced paced, in that time passes quickly, but also slow paced, in that not much really happens.

The end was really good, and I wouldn't have minded if Marley had
reunited with her sister and died
, but this was a good alternative.

» READABILITY «
I read this via an audiobook, so it was pretty easy to get through.

» CHARACTERS «
Honestly, I really didn't like the the characters that much. If this book had much more loveable characters, this would've easily gotten a 5 star rating, regardless of the writing.

I really didn't like Kyle's friend. He blamed Kyle for a lot of things, like the fact that his and Kimberly's relationship wasn't perfect, but they kept getting back together. Despite the fact that a relationship takes two people, AND/i<> the fact that HE was the one who convinced them to get back together all seven times.

» WRITING «
This book was fairly fast paced, especially with that plot line. However, the fast paced nature of it make it feel choppy and not as smooth. It really pulled me out of the story.

» OVERALL «
How is this near perfect if the characters and writing only got 3 stars? This book had the potential of being really good, romantic, fluffy, and it had a lot going for it, but it dropped the ball.

» PLOT «
Following a major storm on Mars, Mark Watney, presumed to be dead, is not only alive, but stranded on Mars. With a limited amount of supplies and no one coming to help, he must figure out how to survive the deadly landscape of Mars and get back home to Earth.

There were a lot of obstacles and malfunctions that occurred in the book. I know I have to suspend my disbelief for science fiction, but damn a whole lotta shit came up.

» READABILITY «
This book was medium paced, but the actual book timeline was fast. I was a bit slow on reading this, but that's not because this was hard to read. Rather, I wanted to break up the book into proper segments.

» CHARACTERS «
Finally, a main character that is likeable. Finally, side characters that are likable.

I loved Mark's humor as well as the other side character's humor. Although the three groups (Mark, Hermes crew, and NASA) don't interact a lot, the interaction among themselves and other groups are so good. Marks narration/commentary was good, but I did prefer the section with regular, 3rd person writing.

» WRITING «
Whenever I read books in the "Adult" category, I always think the writing might not be assessable to be, despite the fact that I'm an adult fluent in English and currently attending university. Anyways, the writing in this book is easy to process, even with the chemistry, mathematics, physics that are riddled throughout the book. (BTW I figured it out; I somehow associate "Adult" with "classics" and that is why I don't always read Adult books and why I think the prose would be difficult to comprehend.)

This book has a lot of writing formats; logs/entries, third person, and another third person omniscient (non character related). I preferred 3rd person, but I loved the ominous nature of the third person omniscient perspectives.

» OVERALL «
I liked this book more than I thought it would. I watched the movie when it first came out in theaters (note: I got pink eye in that sitting :/) and I liked it back them. Now that I finally have read the book, it holds up. I don't remember the movie all that much, but both are great.

The only reason this book isn't getting a 5 star, is because I'm not gushing over it.
