» PLOT «
Alice and Ella have been on the run for a long time, never really settling in any location for that long of a time. After finally settling, Alice's mother, Ella, is kidnapped. Desperate to find the only person left in her family, Alice follows the mysterious clues left behind by the characters of the fictional world of Hinterland, a creation of her grandmother's.

That's not a bad thing, but both [b:The Looking Glass Wars|44170|The Looking Glass Wars (The Looking Glass Wars, #1)|Frank Beddor|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1354845928l/44170._SX50_.jpg|918951] and [b:Alice's Adventures in Wonderland|6324090|Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, #1)|Lewis Carroll|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1391204048l/6324090._SX50_.jpg|55548884] did it better. Despite this, the second half of the book was better than the first half.
I really wanted to like this book, but this book and my busy schedule put me in a reading slump. I have also come to the conclusion that I'd like a little more clarity and light-heartedness when it comes to books, and this book was neither.
» READABILITY «
This book put me in a reading slump and I had to get the audiobook for me to be able to finish it.
» CHARACTERS «
I didn't like any of the characters. None of them were likeable or realistic, and I thought all of them were stupid and had bad motivations.
» WRITING «
The writing was okay, nothing special. There were some lines that were nonsensical metaphors but otherwise, it was okay.
» OVERALL «
I can see why people would like this book, and it got better over time, but this book was not a good book for me at this point in time. I'm honestly just glad to have finished the book and I doubt I will be revisiting this series for a long time.
