City of Bones
by Cassandra Clare
» QUICK OVERVIEW «
Stars: ★★★☆☆
Plot: ★★★☆☆
Readability: ★★★☆☆
Characters: ★★☆☆☆
Writing: ★★★☆☆
Recommend: ✗

» PLOT «
Following the disappearance of her mother, Clary discovers that her mother used to be a part of a secret organization of demon hunters. Desperate to find her mother, Clary is thrust into the Shadowhunter world and into the lives of Jace, Alec, and Isabelle as she is attacked. Suddenly, Clary must figure out her mother's secrets and why it's been hidden from her.
I loosely knew the plot, so that may've made me more salty than necessary, but some of the storylines are so obvious. Other plot lines are weirdly unexplained.
» READABILITY «
The book was easy to read, I just happened to be busy. The first half was better than the second though.
» CHARACTERS «
I an a character-driven book kind of gal, but I hate all of the characters in this book (except Magnus and Isabelle). Halfway through the book I switched from liking Simon to wishing he would leave the story. I also began to realize how dumb Clary is. Jace is unexplainable. Alec is rude, but redeemable.
I know some of the plot points in the future books, so I'm sticking this one through to the next few books.
» WRITING «
The writing is average, nothing too bad or too good. Nothing special.
» OVERALL «
I already read this book a few years back, and I actually liked it enough to DNF [b:City of Ashes|1582996|City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2)|Cassandra Clare|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1432730356l/1582996._SY75_.jpg|1575860].
This series has potential, and I will read the next book. Let's hope it's good.
