A very good little short story that deals with some heavier death concepts in the Earthsea series. I think this is best read at least after the third book, though technically readable whenever (I personally just finished the fourth). I like this other plotline in the world, it's nice to see things outside of the main story.

Wow. This book took me a month and a half to read, and for good reason. It is dense and heavy and full of valuable information. If you can't get yourself to read the entire thing, I definitely at least recommend reading the first section, about guns, and really recommend trying to get through the second section, about health care. Though I was already aware of a lot of this conceptually, and hold similar beliefs, it was still incredibly helpful to be aware of this book as a reference point and to actually see those facts and statistics. This book is invaluable in a time like this, where we are seeing more and more people die of whiteness. Thank you for writing this, Metzl!

This was a really cute little set of short stories and extra content! I'm glad this book came out. Not a ton to say, though I did really enjoy the kids of the big 3 quest and the intro to Persephone.

This book was incredibly well made especially for it's time, and is impossible to not compare to today in some places (I read the part about American made goods two days after one of Trump's big announcements about tariffs). I also really enjoyed the end of it, much more than I enjoyed the beginning - it really didn't pick up until about page 200-250, in my opinion. Its pretty tough to get through, and very slow, but especially for something written in 1930 it's incredibly accurate and almost alarming to read (but I think necessary).

Honestly, despite lacking a major plotline, I think this is one of the best books so far. You really get to learn more about the characters and their motivations and their relationships, and we get to see more of Tenar, which I was hoping for. I love the feminist turn that the book is taking (though Le Guin seems to shy from that word, it means what I want), and I love how while having played with race before, she's now playing with the gender in her world, which has really been my only gripe with the series. Excited to keep reading for sure!

I loved this one! I liked how we wrapped up the looking for Pan quest in the fourth book so the fifth can really focus on Percy's prophecy. I also really enjoy seeing Nico in his earliest stages and seeing him maturing, while also knowing a little about how he is in the future.

Reading about the lesbian community at times pre/early 2000s is always very enjoyable to me, to see how far we've come and also how we were. Bechdel's work feels like an area where I get to see butch characters, which I miss in a lot of media. Not only that, but butches and lesbians who are different and proud and full people. I also really enjoyed getting to learn more about Bechdel herself, as I always hear about her work but not much of her as a person. I got to see some DTWOF comics I've never seen, and some that I already love. I especially loved the ending with letters from readers, to see how others were affected by and enjoyed DTWOF during its peak.

I think erotica is a really interesting way to analyze attitudes and cultures and customs, and this book didn't disappoint. In between (and during) erotic scenes I got to learn a lot about how the LGBTQ+, and especially trans, community was doing around the 1980s-2000s. It offered a lot of gender analysis concepts, and was very interesting.

This was so interesting for so many reasons - this taught me so much about Russian prison processes and international trade processes. As someone involved in LGBTQ+ activism I was vaguely aware of her situation while it was happening and signed a couple petitions, and I was happy to see her free even though I don't follow WNBA. It must have been horrifying making a mistake like this, and even worse ending up as a political pawn. Very thankful to Griner for sharing her story!

I had a lot of fun with this! Definitely one of the ones I remember liking more when I was younger. I like getting to see more Thalia and Zoë, though I forgot how quickly Bianca got fridged, which was a little disappointing. A continued build up of a great plot concept. Excited for the next one!
