I had a fine time with this story, where the priveledges of the aristocracy and magically powerful get pit against the hopelessness of the many powerless workers that are barely citizens who are pushing for a revolution for basic human rights.
With a bit of blood working thrown in, an interesting magic system that you’re born into ad automatically grants you not just status but also the power to dominate one’s body with just a drop, and with the rest of the populace literally being used as a working force of blood bags. The world is dystopian enough to make it interesting, but when an unblooded suddenly becomes the very thing he hates, he tries to make a change for his former fellow powerless. Navigating the politics of it all is the very thing that he wouldn’t be able to survive if he didn’t trust one of their own, who has her own ‘I don’t trust anyone and I’m playing the long game to the top’ agenda thrown in there too.
Add a bit of romantic passion from a third party who’s motives are even vaguer, and we have three interesting characters all trying to liberate the country in their own ways while also trying not to fall for eachother and a murder to solve, and it’s my type of book. Looking forward to the next part.

A dark telling of how marital abuse, hunger, lawlessness of war and a city under siege, can drive a woman to do horrible things to survive, and actually had me feel some sympathy and understanding for the crone in Hansel and gretel

A cool anthology of different stories set in the dragon age universe. I love being back in this world, and it was interesting seeing the happenings after dragon age inquisition from so many different stories located in the different countries, with different races, backgrounds, motivations. No tale was the same, and it gave quite some insight in old factions we know and love but also new ones we’ve only heard about once.
Having started dragon age veiligers it surprised me to actually immediately recognize some of the characters, locations and historical events, throwing my main character into the fray this book left. Not many videogames truly draw off of the lore like that, I hope to see and recognize more and more as I progress.
All in all, I recommend this read if you’re a dragon age fan wanting to know more about it that world. And the fat that it’s seperate stories make the one a day formula work nicely.

Very much enjoyed it, easy read with great historical ties to ground the fairytale retellings the book is prevalent with. It's been quite some time since I've gone back to the brothers grimm tales, which are so much more gruesome then the retellings that came after them, but seeing as my mother read one fairytale out of the grimm book to me each night, I realize that's exactly the type of fairytale i enjoy.
It was interesting to see each chapter start with a small part of another fairytale before diving into the main story, running parallel to eachother the further you read. Trying to piece together the connection the two sisters of the fable had with Greta and her magic was fun, and seeing everything fall into place near the end was very satisfying.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a book that explored the life of Hansel and Gretel after they've grown up, thinking it would be more of a life lesson story then anything else, but when they dived into witch burnings, skin walking and different magic systems i was hooked. The impact of the time accurate wars passing through europe and the famine and hardship the town faced because of it was a great way to ground the story. Greta herself wasn't too complicated of a character, but I appreciated how the author mostly relied on physical descriptions of how the characters conveyed their feelings and opinions, instead of perhaps staying in Greta's head and having her describe everything beat by beat. It lead to a very dynamic telling of the chemistry between her and Mathias.
While the story did kind of lose itself in the third bit, wanting to wrap up too many threads causing a bit of a shift in the pacing, I did still quite enjoy the read, and I'll be checking out before the forest, the prequel about the origins of the witch as well.

An interesting look into where Alistars father has dissapeared to and how the dragons came to return to Thedas after meno eons. Glad to see my two favorite characters Alistair and Varric interact with eachother, with Isabella doing the heavy lifting in the fight scenes

This book was a wild ride. Another sci fi murder mystery meets necromancy meets emo kid meets tumblr but then with some timey wimey shenanigans and misdirections which make reading the book like solving a confusing puzzle you don’t know the rules of. It throws you off by a lot in the beginning, but it’s oh so satisfying when the pieces start falling into place.
A lot of old questions I had from the first book got answered, but now I have a whole new set of questions, that I hope get answered in the next book. I’m hooked on this unhinged series, and while I thought the graphic descriptions of bones, blood, fat and other tissues would get me gagging, it’s so well done that I’m just morbidly intrigued by it all. The thing I appreciate most is the humor, and I will never get over the left pizza none beef joke.

If this is your favorite book of all time I will be judging you lol. I mostly wanted to read this book cuz it was so freaking hyped up last year and I wanted to check out why, it had so many non readers picking it up and having them become readers, at least in the romantasy/fantasy genre.
But having read it it’s reminding me of the teen dystopia era around the hunger games time, but instead of it being a masterpiece like the hunger games, it’s giving the lesser stories like divergent or the maze runner which tried to use the hype of the hunger games in the same genre, but were overall a much lesser experience because while they reused all the tropes, the story itself wasn’t really there.
While I’ll admit it was an easy breezy read and entertaining enough, everything was incredibly predictable, with the small underestimated heroine falling for the tall dark handsome dangerous forbidden stranger who she swoons at at every turn and inevitably ends up with despite it never being the best choice and they’re both just thinking with their dicks while they both just read as young students so it’s a bit jarring.
Lots of killing and dying for thrills sake and having the dragons be all cool and menacing only to have them appear like grumpy old men complaining in their heads was not exactly what I was expecting. Decent read is what I’ll give it, but damn I really expected better from the book of the year.

Insane murder mystery. Very unserious and moving at the same time. The characters are a diverse cast of personalities and hair colors that remind me a bit of fruits basket, and the book is not afraid to poke fun at their extremities. Dee has a heart of gold and only wants acceptance, though it’s hardest finding that in himself.
The murders started out slow and small, with hints peppered throughout, but near the end everything was ramping up and the stakes got bigger and bigger and curveballs on the murderers identity kept being thrown. The ending was surprising but very satisfactory, and I couldn’t put it down for the last parts at all.

These books keep topping the next. Never thought I’d see a book mix pirates of the Caribbean, gladiator and the little mermaid together, but it was a riot to read. To protect the summer kingdom from downfall we had stubborn princes trying to cross a desert looking for long lost Pegasus warriors, seeking the path through an icy labrinth filled with fates, on a quest to corrupt dark magical crystals by hiding away in the corrupt below and the summer prince fighting his way to the top in a gladiator arena to get his people to rise up against the dark forces, only for the city to be won and lost at the same time.
I really appreciate the fact that a why choose can be as romantic and tropey as it is while still having incredible fantasy world building and plot that’s gonna last us for 7 books and I’m invested at every step. The twists at the end were quite unexpected and I’m heartbroken but eager to see where this will lead us next.

Super cute and lighthearted graphics about the everyday qualms in a relationship between a modern day vampire and a werewolf
