I had a fine time with this story, where the priveledges of the aristocracy and magically powerful get pit against the hopelessness of  the many powerless workers that are barely citizens who are pushing for a revolution for basic human rights.

With a bit of blood working thrown in, an interesting magic system that you’re born into ad automatically grants you not just status but also the power to dominate one’s body with just a drop, and with the rest of the populace literally being used as a working force of blood bags. The world is dystopian enough to make it interesting, but when an unblooded suddenly becomes the very thing he hates, he tries to make a change for his former fellow powerless. Navigating the politics of it all is the very thing that he wouldn’t be able to survive if he didn’t trust one of their own, who has her own ‘I don’t trust anyone and I’m playing the long game to the top’ agenda thrown in there too.

Add a bit of romantic passion from a third party who’s motives are even vaguer, and we have three interesting characters all trying to liberate the country in their own ways while also trying not to fall for eachother and a murder to solve, and it’s my type of book. Looking forward to the next part.
