I can see why this book has lasted so long and is studied so much. I can still see similarities between the book and what can happen today sometimes, politically speaking. I thought it was kind of funny that almost immediately the pigs were going against the commandments that they all just agreed on.

There is a lot of talk about sex and kinks in this book so if you don’t like to read about that, this book might not be for you!
I really liked to read the conversations about motherhood between Reese and Katrina and hear their different perspectives. It was interesting to hear Amy and Reese described in the other’s perspective. I liked the different timelines we read from so we got to see Amy and Reese while they’re dating and where they’re at currently. The ending felt a little rushed, there was a lot happening in the last 50 pages.

The title was intriguing but I must not have looked inside the book before I bought it. This is a very fast read. Many of the poems are very short. I didn’t like that the poems weren’t titled or the rhyming in some of them. I enjoyed some of the longer ones but the ones I liked were few and far between. The repetition got annoying. Words that were repeated a lot include honey, water/sea or similar, summer, dark, and coffee. I don’t know if she was trying to go for a theme or something but the lack of word choice and different topics got annoying. There were some poems I read and thought This would be a good one to end on. But the book just kept going. The comma placement in some of the poems made them hard to understand.
I didn’t like the repetition, I didn’t like Celaena talking about how pretty she is and how skinny she is amd talking about how skinny other women are. I thought it was silly that her plans of escape were put on hold because she found books. I thought it was funny all the times she was like “I would have no problem beating all these people up and escaping. It would be too easy.” I was like Okay girl then do it!! But she didn’t. Celaena didn’t seem to allow herself to enjoy feminine things. Overall didn’t really fall in love with the characters or the plot.

Trevor Noah talks about his childhood and growing up as a child of mixed race in Africa. Noah touches on themes of racism, poverty, family, and his first heartbreak. We got to learn about the struggles Noah faced fitting in during his years at school. It was also fun to read about his relationship with his mother, how their opinions differ on certain topics, and the empathy Noah has developed while reflecting on her parenting style. It was interesting to read about someone who had a much different childhood than I did.

It took me a little longer to get into this book but I did eventually. I really liked the future world that Huxley built and I can imagine it being a thing today, the smells and sensory stuff. It was a world without problems, without relationships, and without strong emotions. The characters were very interesting, it was especially curious when they would recite things that they were hypnotized to say. John was very different from everyone else because he wasn't hypnotized and read Shakespeare. I didn't like the way he treated Lenina. I didn't expect the ending.

I loved reading this book so much! Dave's voice is so strong and it was really cool to read about behind the scenes stories about touring, his band, and falling in love with music when he was young. He seems like a really charismatic person that brings people together. I liked reading about his fan boy moments when he got to meet musicians he admired. It was sweet to read about him and his daughters. He got very vulnerable talking about Kurt and his health struggles.

This book had darker themes than I was expecting! I probably should have expected it to be a little dark since it’s about ghosts. I felt so bad for Marj with her mom passing a year ago and having to run the laundromat by herself.

A story about immigration, love, and family. I loved hearing about Covey's life and how she overcame the challenges put in front of her. I liked all the different perspectives we got to hear from through time. The characters are so well fleshed out. The story felt so real with all the complicated relationships life has. Lots of reveals at the end. I highly recommend this book.
