I had a good time listening to this book. Martin Jarvis gives each character their own unique voice that really fits that character. It was never over the top or took me out of the story. The story itself was entertaining and made me laugh out loud at times. An audiobook might not have been the best choice for me personally to consume this book. Sometimes I would forget characters whose points of view we were hearing from so I would get confused. It was hard for me to keep all the storylines straight sometimes as well. We hear from lots of different points of view in the book, even some we only hear from once. The characters were very likable though. I understand why there's so much love for this book now!

Warsan Shire writes about girlhood, family, and immigration in this poetry collection. I liked the poems about Hooyo, her mother. She also writes poems about death and women who have been murdered. I thought it was awesome that there was a glossary in the back of the book to make it more accessible.

I loved that the book addressed issues that are unfortunately still happening in the US right now. I liked the different perspectives of what Emira should do with the video. Emira was such a well developed character and her relationship with Briar was adorable. Alix was complex, a good friend and wife but she can really hold a grudge and be really manipulative. I didn’t like Kelley at all, he always seemed like he had ulterior motives. I didn’t trust him.

This book was so informative and made me reflect on my relationship with nature and my environment. It was really cool to read from the perspective of someone who is indigenous and a scientist. Highly recommend!

Wow, just WOW!! This is my first time reading R. F. Kuang and I am thoroughly impressed! I loved getting the behind the scenes of the publishing industry and thinking about who gets to tell who’s stories and where writers get their ideas from and are any ideas we have completely original??? Following Junie through this wild ride and her internal thoughts on the journey were challenging and cringe worthy at times just because of the ridiculous things she did to keep her secret. I highly recommend checking this book out!!

Really liked this quick read. It covers topics that are still relevant today.

So moving and a punch to the gut. This wreath of sonnets for Emmett Till is so beautifully crafted and done with such care. It doesn't shy away from the gruesomeness of his lynching. The images that accompany the poems are also really impactful. I love the information at the back of the book that explains references made in the sonnets. It makes the book even more accessible. This is a must read.

This book was a trip! We follow 14 year old Evie in the 1960s as she slowly joins a cult. We get flash forwards of Evie now and how her past has affected her. I liked reading about how hanging out with Suzanne and the others changed her way of thinking. I really liked some of the paragraphs about young love and her feelings for Suzanne.
