I really enjoyed this book about friendship and found family. It follows four friends who reconnect and return to the woods where twenty years ago, a friend went up a staircase and disappeared, and hope to find him. They end up going on an adventure through a house that shows them memories of murders, suicide, and abuse. The friendship between the characters is tender but also complicated, intense, and even during their worst moments they still show how much they care about each other. This is the first book I've read from Chuck Wendig and I'm definitely reading more of his books.

Poppy's twin sister Lola has disappeared and neither of their parents have made an effort to find out where she's gone. So Poppy has decided to send letters to Lola and send them to a location she remembers Lola using. Poppy also spends time with her friends and girlfriend Juniper. I really liked this book even when there were pop culture references that I'm unfamiliar with. The romance between Poppy and Juniper is so sweet and adorable. The letters Poppy writes to Lola describes both happy and sad moments as well as the events that led to Lola deciding to leave. It is a good idea to check content warnings for this book before reading it.

This is such a fun collection of strange and surreal stories. A writer meets the Devil at a party and then writes stories for him throughout her life. Themes in this are immigration, family, religion, xenophobia, misogyny, and racism. I very much enjoyed this collection and will absolutely read it again.

Sol and her wife Alice have moved into a mostly white gated community. Sol is on probation from her job as a biologist after an accusation of plagiarism and visits her homophobic father. The neighbors in the community are a huge nightmare. This book does a great job at showing how white and cultish gated communties are, as well as the price of assimilation. This is my first time reading something by Vincent Tirado and I am definitely going to read more of their books.

This is a funny and relatable short comic about a chef who pushes themself to work all the time so they're always stressed out, and tries to convince themself and their audience that stress is necessary. Also the tiramisu recipe was fun to read. I'm happy I found this in the Queer Liberation Library. =)

Wonderful anthology of queer horror. All of these stories are so great; I enjoyed them all even when they made me feel sad. I'm happy I backed this on Kickstarter and I'm excited to read it again :)

These stories are fun but just like with Mr Higgins Comes Home, I like the illustrations more than the writing. I'm still interested in reading more from this series if a sequel ever gets published.

Wenqi's and her parents are living in HOME, a place where the living can see and interact with the deceased. This is told from the perspective of Wenqi, Liam, a boy whose family is lingering outside of Wenqi's home for the chance to bid on it, and an elderly woman who is at first just referred to as Mrs. The more I read this the more angry I became at Wenqi's parents, specifically her mother. She is so obsessed with seeing her son again that she neglects her daughter. This novella shows how it can be difficult to accept that someone is dead, especially in the scene in which people bid on a house that is soon going to be vacant. I really liked this novella and I am looking forward to checking out of Ai Jiang's writing.

Some of these stories impressed me, but the majority left me feeling underwhelmed. Still might reread this someday just because the thought of lost letters and mail is something that fills me with dread like it does for many people. Also maybe another time I'll appreciate the stories I didn't like that much.
challenging informative reflective

Nothing said in this book really shocked me. All the stories of corruption, misinformation, hate speech, nepotism and all the other shitty things mentioned are what I expected from Facebook. If it wasn't for Meta trying to silence this book I would have never bothered reading it.
