The overall storyline for this book was good and the characters were people you could grow attachments to throughout the book. However I felt the storytelling could be a bit disjointed at times. The timeline was tough to follow, it felt like the book took place over the matter of about 2 weeks but in reality I think it was much longer than that. The shorter feel of it made the deep connection tough for me between the two main characters.
And, like always for me in romance books, the complete lack of communication drove me up a wall …. I get it that there would be no story without the miscommunication sometimes but it still drives me nuts.
I also don’t really know where the next book is going as this one seems to have been wrapped up pretty nicely… so that will be interesting to see.
I definitely saw improvement in the writing as the story went on though so I’ll be interested to see how the second book is.

New York City, 1924
Prohibition is at its height and The Nightingale is in full swing as a back alley club. Vivian is there every night to dance away her troubles and spend a little time with her pal Bea.
But one night Viv and Bea find a dead body in the alley behind the club and before Vivian knows what’s happening she’s wrapped up in the deadly world of New York City’s elite trying to figure out just who killed Mr. Wilson.

Solid 4 to 4.5 star read for this one!
I really enjoyed the characters and I love anything set in the 20’s! This definitely plays out more like an older mystery would, no crazy rides into the seedy underground, but I’m glad it didn’t because I feel like it wouldn’t have fit the period.
I did figure out one of the twists pretty early on but I didn’t see the major reveal coming. The author did drop a pretty glaring hint that I realized after the fact, but I was so caught up in the story and it was well placed, so I missed it.
Looking forward to picking up more by this author in the future!

4.5/5 stars!
Once Upon a Time meets Pretty Little Liar…. That alone had me sold on this one.
Grimrose Académie is a prestigious boarding school in Switzerland. Ella, Rory, and Yuki lost their best friend Ari at the start of the school year. Nani is the new girl and she’s been assigned to the dead girls bed. While unpacking, Nani finds a book hidden in away. It’s a book of fairy tales, fairy tales that seem to be coming to life in the halls of Grimrose. Fairy tales that are killing off their classmates.

I loved this book from start to finish. Most of the fairy tales were pretty easy to pick out and match with the characters. I love that it was a mix of both fantasy and mystery and I cannot wait for the next book to find out what is going to happen next! I do wish there had been a little more of the fairy tales involved with the story telling but maybe I’ll get lucky and there will be more of them in book 2!

Just over a year ago, actress Casey Fletcher’s husband drowned in Lake Greene. Forced back to the family lake house after a drinking binge that left her as tabloid fodder, Casey is forced to deal with the very lake where she lost her husband. Not long after arriving Casey saves the life of the woman living in the house across the lake, Katherine. Curious about the life of the supermodel across the lake, Casey starts spying on Katherine and her husband … and may see more than she bargained for.

I love Riley Sager’s books because they are so uniquely his. I wasn’t exactly sure the turn this one was going to take because it started off like a pretty basic mystery book. I was a little worried that it was going to be on the boring side. But it took a left turn that I did not see coming and I loved it.
It was a wtf moment to start but I ended up loving how he developed the story after the twist. When it first happened I was a little worried I wasn’t going to like it still but I couldn’t put the book down and kept wondering what was going to happen next!

Now I’m a little bummed I’m going to have to wait at least another year before I get to read another Riley Sager book …. Hopefully he’s got something good in the works!

It’s been 10 years since Saskia went missing, and now she has officially been declared dead. When Milla receives an email invitation for a reunion from Curtis, Saskia’s brother and her long time crush, she can’t pass up the opportunity to see him again. But the reunion doesn’t quite go the way any of them had planned. It’s turned into a game no one is ready to play because no one wants their secrets to come out.

I love trapped type stories like this. But I thought the flashbacks were a little overwhelming at times. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of the characters in this one. They all seemed nuts, like actual psychopaths and it made it really hard to sympathize with any of them. It hit a point at the end where I couldn’t believe all of them had survived their 20s because they were that nuts. And I thought that the flashbacks took away from the overall story because there were so many of them. I felt like some of them were very unnecessary to the overall story.
At the same time, I did fly through this book because I was very curious to figure out what was happening. Still an overall good read though!

Chrissy, Chase, Emma, and Kiki make up the Ghost Gang, filming their encounters the with other side for a YouTube channel. Closing in on 1 million subscribers, Chase books them a room at the most haunted hotel around. A skid row hotel, known as the Horror Hotel, has seen its fair share of deaths and disappearances over the years… and the Ghost Gang is about to get caught up in it all.

I was hoping it would be a quick creepy read and it was at times but it was also a bit disappointing. I wanted it to focus more on the ghost stories and trying to solve the mystery but half the book was about falling for attractive guys and unrequited feelings and I’m so sick of authors thinking these things are necessary to make a book good. They make the book worse, when will they realize that?! You’re writing a horror book, make it scary! I think 3 stars was pretty generous on my part seeing as they didn’t solve the mystery they went there for and barely talked about it at all for most of the book … like why even bring it up at the start then?

Audra is an art student, one of the best Max Durant has ever taught. When she invites him to her home in a remote part of Maine, he believes he is there to see her thesis project… and maybe begin a relationship with his budding student. But Audra has other plans for Max, plans that involve him revisiting a past he thought he left behind long ago.

This was definitely a slow build story. I honestly wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it for the majority of the book but the ending really made it worth it for me. Still not enough to bump it into the 4 star range but enough to not give it 3. I got the ending I was hoping for with this one and I truly didn’t expect to. I figured the author would find a way to change the course at the last minute but I was really glad she didn’t. I enjoyed this more than I expected to and definitely recommend it if you don’t mind the slow build!

Tucked away at the family home, cut off from civilization by the rising tide, the Darker family gathers to celebrate Nana’s 80th birthday. But the celebration soon goes awry when Nana announces she will be leaving her fortune to her great granddaughter.
Well that just won’t do. Maybe it’s time for Nana to die.

My first foray into Alice Feeney books and it definitely didn’t disappoint. I’ve heard nothing but good things about her books and this one caught my interest with Book of the Month. It gave off serious And Then There Were None vibes throughout the book which is always a bonus in my book. I kinda saw the ending coming a little but there was such a huge twist I didn’t expect that I wasn’t disappointed that I’d figured out some of the other things.
A very solid 4 star read.
