I was not expecting this comic series. You follow the story of a you girl name Kamala. You watch her struggle with acculturation to American society. She is also growing as a young person and being split between two worlds. A world her family wants for her and a world that she feels accepted into.
She has a set of friends who support her but she doesn’t always agree with their choices. She prays (wishes) for a better life and something unexplainable happened to her. In this volume you watch her find her way and struggle between wanting to be like others and wanting to maintain being a “perfect Muslim girl” for her family.

Beautiful! I loved how honest Bitter was in this book. I loved the combination of magical elements and real life themes. The names of this book was of note and intrigue to me. The idea of vulnerability and fear behind it was also intriguing.

So much to learn. So much I learned about the intersections of feminism and how it’s affected by the patriarchy. I think this is great to read and for a read. I especially enjoyed learning how of the intersections of violence and patriarchy.
10 stars if I could give it. Please tune into my in depth discussion of this book. Lorraine Hansberry is a gem.

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. So thankful of my cousin for suggesting this book to me. Clearly I have not been maintaining my boundaries and people pleasing at the expense to myself. I also need to work on setting boundaries with family and friends because I’m not doing what I need to do.

This is probably my favorite of the trilogy so far. Rin is such a complex character that I felt like the author did a great job of showing how trauma has affect her childhood development. I felt that their was a clear division between the characters. Which is wonderful to me because I tend to blend characters. Watching Rin deal with being a lab rat, used a weapon, navigating a crush, and being a leader was the best parts of this book. The author did a great job of showing how difficult it is to hold your emotional in and living with so much stress. Most all, this trilogy shows the realties of war and that often none of the key players hands are clean.

Again I’m left with another non fiction I wish I had the physical copy of it. I will never forget that we need to be resting 42% of the day. Which is about 10 hours. I will never forget rest is not just sleeping. The biggest takeaways I got was learning how to complete the stress cycle, how patriarchy has sent us hurtful message that we perpetuate, and how we (women) are taught to be givers. The section about bodies and the messages we tell ourselves almost bought me to tears and I was shaking my head the whole time.
I didn’t like the “new hot-ness” talk because I couldn’t relate with it. I am thinking on why I didn’t relate and is it possible to create a better phrase to say to myself that feels more comfortable.

Wow! I love that this series didn’t end how I saw it ending but the new loves and being loved stories were everything. I loved the HEA of each couple. And each of them were unique in their own way.

Seeing Marko like that continues to break my heart! “A psycho” damn the plot thickens. I wonder how that will play out.
