SGJ ending twist never disappoints!

As always with each book, racism and stereotypes is ALIVE and well. I find it a bit refreshing that Sookie is becoming more independent and critical of the world around her. I do think adding in the “educated words” were oddly placed and odd. However, I understand the author may have been criticized for the lack of reflection in Sookie’s characters in previous books. In this book, the author stated harmful things about Asian American communities. I am not surprised.

Sookie was more explorative in her sexuality in this book. This was refreshing to see because I was becoming bored with the smut. I am in the company that Charlaine has grown as a writer since these books.

I am sitting here and taking in to what I’ve just read. I still have similar views of this author’s work but I want to expand on my thoughts please check out the liveshow at booksandlala YouTube channel for my thoughts on Sunday. Here is the link for a reminder. #literallydeadbookclub

Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Loved this so much! I loved the mixed between a Chinese immigrant family, culture, and values and solving crime. I think trying to figure out life and being apart of many intersections caused the characters to be so fixated on solving a mystery.

I love a story that is told by an amateur sleuth. I love characters who have family that they do and do not agree with. It adds to the complexity of the story. The more the MC explored online dating made me think critically of the decisions I’ve made in the past. I hope to get more cases by this amateur sleuth.

We still are following the MC in this story. However another character is being introduced and friendships are being created and tested. This graphic novel is a great conversation starter on how lonely it can feel to be different and the dangers of doing nothing while someone is suffering.

I thought the pacing of this free aphid novel was nice. I loved the artwork. Being in middle school has it challenges when grief is in the mixed. I sure so many children can relate to this story when they are left to pick up the pieces when their surviving parent is grieving.

Get Out of Your Head: Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts

DID NOT FINISH: 4%

I don’t think this book was what I had in mind. So I stopped reading it. I can see how this book can be very beneficial for someone else who has an deep relationship with God.
