Enjoyed this a TON! What girl wouldn’t want to be called an “erotic spectre” by a brooding regency hero? 🤭

Enjoyed this even though it took a looooong time to get juicy. I love a good slow-burn though. Honoria was too much of a goody two shoes for me to really love her as a character, but her intentions were good. I just couldn’t imagine forcing my friends / cousins / daughters participate in one of them Smythe-Smith’s musicales when it’s so blatantly obvious it’s causing them severe emotional suffering 🫣😂
Marcus’ character was better, I actually prefer the brooding, silent type to the “rake” we so often get as the hero in historical romance novels (I mean duh, Mr. Darcy’s my fave 😂). Honoria finding out he’s just shy was the cutest 😇😆 I do think it was a missed opportunity that Marcus didn’t call Honoria by her childhood nickname “Bug” every once in a while. Like, why tell me as a reader that Marcus and her brother used to annoy her as a child and then NOT do a callback to it in the future when they’ve both grown up? He could’ve used it again to tease her and then when he started falling for her he could’ve still used it but as an endearment. Like, how cute would that have been?! 🥺
I also would’ve expected more of a subplot about the exiled brother, Daniel, but I guess I’ll get that in the next book. Oh and I LOVED that Pen and Colin had a cameo in this. (and Gregory too).

Since I really enjoyed Twin Crowns I was very excited to continue with Wren and Rose’s story. Definitely check this series out if you enjoy YA fantasy with a splash of romance! I finished it last night and here’s what I thought about it:
Things I did like:
- Tor. Always Tor 😏 *swoon* there’s something about the “he’s the captain to the royal guard” thing that just does it for me. The chemistry between him and Wren is immaculate.
- Without saying too much… there is some stuff in here that might appeal to the girlies who have a weak spot for morally gray villains 🫢👀 (aka me 🙋🏻♀️). I cannot wait to find out how this storyline will develop further in the final book! I just want to read it rn please 🥲
- We got to explore Gevra! It kind of feels like an evil Arendelle, very cool (pun not intended ❄️)
- I really liked that we got to know more about the OG twin queens and the that the mythical lore was mixing with the current story.
- The talking mirrors! Felt like something out of a Barbie movie 🤩
- Elske 🐺🩵
Things I didn’t like:
- Wren is still SO impulsive and naive at times, ugh I just wanted to slap some sense into that girl.
- Rowena. She’s such a loose cannon. It seems like she’s acting reckless just for the sake of being reckless. It’s annoying and she needs to be put in her place.
- I wasn’t a big fan of Shen in this one 🫣 he redeemed himself in the end but oof, he needed a stern talking-to.
- This is still very much YA. Which is okay, because that’s what I was expecting when I went into this series. It’s a lot of fun to read, but I do have to admit that sometimes I craved more maturity from the characters, writing style and plot. But that’s totally a me problem. I should probably just try to read more adult fantasy, but I’m scared to do that because I’m not one for heavy world-building and complicated magic systems and intricate political plot lines that need 1000% of my attention for me to understand it 🙈 I often just don’t have the mental energy for that 😂 which I why I always come back to ya fantasy.

Emily Henry does it again!
I’m usually not a big fan of the second chance romance trope, but since it’s Emily Henry, and she can do no wrong imo, I decided to go into this with an open mind. Boy did it pay off! Her books just hit me in the feels so much. And there’s just something about the writing style that I cannot explain. This book felt like a warm hug at times, but also stabbed me in the heart repeatedly.
Although I didn’t enjoy this as much as some of the other books, I’m still rating it 5 ⭐️ it was mostly because I was frustrated for a bit part of the story. Like, COME ON GUYS you both obviously worship the ground the other walks on just be together already ughhh 😫 but all the emotional turmoil I went through paid off in the end.
The internal struggles Harriet, Wyn and even Cleo went through were all relatable to me in some way. Reading about Wyn’s lack of confidence felt a bit like looking into a mirror sometimes.
One of my favourite quotes:
I feel like a ghost. Like my skin isn’t solid enough to hold the sunlight, and my hair isn’t there to dance on the breeze.
Like, that’s just a beautiful sentence, damn 🥺
Also, I want a Wyn in my life, thank you 🫢
AND there was a Beach Read cameo! 🤩🤩

Was this the best book ever written? No. Did I still love every minute of it? Definitely.
This was so freaking cute, I just want to give all the characters a big hug (apart from Maggie’s nasty colleagues and Freddie’s parents that is 🫢). The only thing I was missing was a bit of *spice*. I’m not mad there wasn’t any spice, I don’t NEED it in a romance novel (though I definitely prefer some 🤭) but there was a lack of kissing imo. This is most definitely very much a slowburn. I still loved it. Just don’t go into this expecting a lot of smooching 😅
I really enjoyed the insight this gives into the lives of the people working in the Tower of London. All the history, ceremonies and official goings-on. Especially because this was written by an insider! You know they know their stuff.
This also made me quite emotional. Maggie’s inner struggle was very relatable to me and it was so empowering to see her find her voice and confidence. And the ending definitely didn’t make me cry 🫣😭
Also, I want a Freddie, thanks 💂🏻♂️🇬🇧
