Wow, I’m so glad I decided to dive into a Thea Beckman book again. As a kid I loved Crusade in Jeans, but somehow I’d never read any of her other works. This surprised me in the best way. Now I remember why I used to love reading books like these. I devoured Jan Terlouw and Simone van der Vlugt books in my youth and this falls into the same category. I listened to the Dutch audiobook and it is sublimely narrated. I mainly read in English but there’s just something about reading/listening books in your own language. Although the language and use of words was a little old fashioned at times (this was written in the 90’s) this didn’t bother me at all. When this was written we didn’t really have “YA” books yet, but I guess that’s what we would call this today. Even though the writing style seems to be aimed at younger readers (middle grade/early ya), the themes in the book are of a very adult nature. I loved learning about a period in history that I knew essentially nothing about and I definitely wanna read more. I had some difficulty remembering all the names and titles and who fought for which side, especially towards the end. That’s why I enjoyed the first half of the book better and it took me a while to get through the second half which is much denser. Still, I really enjoyed this.

Okay I definitely liked this more than the first one. I could actually feel the chemistry (which I didn’t really in The Fine Print) and the tension was AMAZING. I still don’t find the insane protectiveness/possessiveness that these billionaire men portray an attractive quality (like threatening bodily harm to any other man who even dares to look in their ladies’ direction) but I can forgive Declan that because he saved that dog 🥹 I also loved Cal as Iris’s best friend, very curious about his book now.
Slight error in this book: Defcon 5 isn’t the dangerous one, that’s Defcon 1 🙄 (should’ve caught that in editing). Stuff like that annoys me. Also, I listened to the audiobook and it was very difficult to make out all the foreign words they were using (which made it almost impossible to look up their meanings). If the way they pronounced the Dutch “gezelligheid” and German “ich liebe dich” is the standard for how all those foreign expressions were pronounced in the audiobook it’s no wonder I couldn’t make out most of them 🙈 (I get that English is the first language of these narrators but this is my plea to please do SOME research into pronunciation when you come across words in other languages). Another complaint: can romance authors please stop using the phrase “looking at someone like they hung the moon”, it’s such a cliché expression and I’ve seen it used so many times in romance novels it gets annoying 🙄

Very cute and lighthearted friends-to-lovers romcom. Underrated imo! While the first half of the book was fun but not amazing, the second half more than made up for it. SO MUCH angst and pining and feelings 👌🏼 I eat that shit up. The P&P (2005) references were a bit on the nose but it’s my favourite film so I enjoyed them all the same 😂

This book is all kinds of fucked up. I have no idea how to rate this. Can you believe I stayed up until 2 AM to finish this? 🫣 this review was written immediately after, so bear with me.
It was such a quick read, CoHo’s writing style just makes me fly through her books. I was really feeling the chemistry between the two main characters but at the same time didn’t really have an emotional connection to them? For the entire 2nd half of the book I was waiting for this crazy plottwist that was apparently coming. When I’d almost gotten to the end I was convinced it wasn’t coming, or that I’d already read it and it just wasn’t surprising to me. I was wrong, there definitely was a plottwist. And I definitely was surprised, it just didn’t make me like the book any better? So it was definitely an engaging read but I also didn’t really like the book? I feel like I enjoyed it but at the same time I didn’t? How to rate this? 😵💫
⭐️⭐️⭐️
(for now, we’ll see how I feel about it in the morning 😂)

Wow this was a wild ride 🫢 I can’t really say too much about this book because I’ll spoil the whole thing but the plot twists were exquisite, *chef’s kiss*, douze points 👌🏼

This is such a weird book, not really my cup of tea. I’ve been wondering for some time if horror just isn’t my genre, or if I haven’t found the right horror/mystery book yet. I’ve read a few now that were okay but I could just as easily have DNF’ed them if I would actually DNF books (I don’t like to because it feels like quitting 😬). Same goes for this one. It just wasn’t a very enjoyable read. I was confused most of the time, which is what’s supposed to happen, I guess. But also, this book is kinda boring imo 🤷🏻♀️ I’m sorry 😬
I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on and at the same time struggling through chapters in which nothing really happens. I had to switch to the audiobook to even make it to the end. After finishing the book and reading the author’s note I understand it better but pfew… I’m glad I’m done now 🫣
