AMAZING art, so-so story. Probably won't continue but it was pretty to look at.

Imagine if you can grow new parts of people on plants? Like you need a new arm? No problem, let me cut that off my tree and give it to you.

This is a story about a family trying to come together once more. The Jenkins family was ripped apart when the father went into the business of growing organs. His son left and now years and years later, with a family of his own, he tries to fix that. What's happening though behind the scenes as others are trying to sabotage the Jenkins family farm? You'll have to find out by reading this!

Good: The art is solid and pretty funny but at the same time can bring out the horror of the series. That's pretty tough to do. The dialogue can change from endearing to comedy in a second and works pretty well without feeling forced. Enough mystery in the series to make me want a volume 2.

Bad: The pacing is a little off with some huge exposition dumps throughout. I also didn't love the comedy and nothing really made me do much more than a smirk. The ending is interesting though kind of like "That's where we're going to end?"

Overall, good, but not great. It's very different than anything else I've read so that's a plus. I'll hit it with a 3 out of 5.

This was a odd comic because it basically was telling a current story while keep flipping back to the good old times with the old style Batman, and I felt it clashed pretty hard at times.

The thing with Kevin Smith is when you pick up his book, you're going to get Kevin Smith humor. You don't like that? This won't work for you. With Batman getting a new sidekick he begins to go back in his mind of different heroes he fought with and against. At the same time he's falling in love again and this time the relationship is turning more serious than ever before.

Good: I actually liked Batman fucking smiling. I'm not convinced Bruce needs to always be a mean-tough-brooding guy. He can have fun and smile while still putting on his Batman show. I thought the moments with Robin and Nightwing worked. I actually liked the new sidekick too and the twist at the end was oh shit.

Bad: The twist at the end is oh shit but we will never get a conclusion it looks like, which sucks. I also the love story was done well enough but it came out of nowhere and was rushed through it. The artwork was also kind of wonky.

Overall, fun, but not his best. I believe his Daredevil and especially Green Arrow are far stronger than either of his Batman books. a 3 out of 5.

This was pretty good. No clue why I had it at 5 stars before because when I first read American Vampire I didn't like it all that much. I would have given it a 2.5-3. But this time around, I enjoyed it a lot more.

So what is it? Well vampires one day fuck with the wrong cowboy, and that man, Skinner Sweet, becomes the first AMERICAN vampire. What's that you might ask? Well let's just say they are a bit more...monstrous than the regular types. Also, Pearl, our other main character, gets wrapped up in this dark world as well. This Gothic horror series that spreads through many years made a much better impression the 2nd time around.

Good: Really enjoyed the art. While westerns aren't my thing, they did a goodjob between that and the 20's and feeling different. I also enjoyed how little exposition there was. I love Scott Snyder as a person but his latest work is filled with exposition dumps. Here, it flows much better. I also liked the characters for the most part and really eager to see how it all comes together.

Bad: Sometimes the characters motivations seem odd, and also, everyone is a brick. Even Pearl to some extent. I just didn't like anyone, and while I find them interesting, it's nice to like a character.

A 3.5 out of 5, but I'll bump it to a 4 for the art alone. On to the next one!

A nice stand alone story of how Superman and Shazam can be so alike, yet so different.

This is a basic team up idea. Both Superman and Shazam are after the same people. When things get a bit too much for each other they decide to team up and kick some booty. Easy enough premise. Then, a terrible event happens to one of them and this takes a darker route than I expected. The last few pages really sum up who these characters are and why they are so alike and different all at once.

Good: The art is cartoony as hell but it works so well. I love the brightness and happiness of it all. I also thought Superman and Shazam dialogue back and forth is both endearing and fun. The last issue hits home and those final few pages really made me smile to show who these characters are and why. It sums it up perfectly.

Bad: The pacing is a bit weird. It's slow at parts and SUPER fast at others. Think being 4 issues it gets rushed though a bit. I also felt like the basic storyline, least first 3 issues, are fun but just same old we've always seen.

Overall, a 3.5 out of 5. A nice surprise. With a extra issue I can see this being a 4 out of 5.

12th volume in and still loving this series.

So this starts off finishing up the Renee storyline, or atleast getting the truth out. Then we do two standalone issues, one dealing with Darwin and the other dealing with Layla and Jamie. Then we get into a main storyline that deals a bit with Spider-man and a lot with J.j. This brings up a major moment that happens to one of our teammates, some more mystery plotlines, and a ending that will for sure keep you wanting more.

Good: Really love the interaction with all these characters. The balance between super funny moments and downright emotional, crying in the corner moments, works so well. The progress for a lot of characters, growing into new people throughout their run is great. The ending is pretty interesting and I'm dying to know what happens next.

Bad: The J.J. stuff was good but seem a bit odd and hypocritical to the character. Also, with so many plotlines, you start to feel it's a bit too jumbled.

Overall, solid and fun. While not the best volume it's still super strong. Right around a 3.5 but I'll bump it to a 4.

See? I read a novel every once in awhile. 100 comics inbetween =P

Pet Sematary is probably one of the more famous works from Stephen King. I'm not going to pretend I've read everything from the guy, but the majority things I've read I enjoyed. I especially loved Salem's Lot and IT. So I was pretty excited to give this a go. With the 2019 movie coming in April, I guess I picked a good time to jump on the bandwagon! Hey-Ho, let's go!!!

Louis and his family move to a new town to try and start life again. Once getting set in, and becomes best friends with Judd, the awesome neighbor across the road (or rud), everything seems to come together. The majority of this book is actually focused on Death itself. And so Louis, as a doctor, experiences the different phases of death. However, it's when tragedy hits home that things take a very dark twist. What is Pet Sematary, and what dark secrets does it hold?

Good: The slow build up can be a good thing or a bad thing. Here, it's masterfully done. The mundane stories of the everyday life work to benefit to really learn and love these characters. From Louis approach to logic, to his wife Rachel love for her kids and husband, to Gage sweetness and learning to talk, to Ellie's fierce and mature look at life. They all work together to create something special but it's the icing on the top, Jud, the neighbor who is like a grandfather watching over everyone. They all build upon each other and create a family you learn to love.

The horror part works well as it follows the famous "tell don't show" and a lot of the deaths are even harder to digest because of the lack of details of their death, leaving your mind to wonder and create even more fucked up situations. The ending, last 50-60 pages, is chilling and also downright scary at moments.

Bad: There's a long stretch of grave robbing that honestly could have been shorter. I get what it was going for, and it could be thrilling to some, but I found it overly long and broke my interest for a week or two till I came back to the book. Luckily, this is basically the only negative I can think of.

Pet Sematary might not be as high as IT but I'd put it easily as high as Salem's Lot. A chilling story with some real great insight to death. It made me really think about it all. a 4 out of 5.

I got to say, if anyone can followup Taylor's Wolverine, which was pretty strong throughout, Mariko would be the one.

I haven't read too much from Mariko but what I have I enjoyed. Especially her "Being Super" Supergirl miniseries. So I was pretty excited to try this for her name alone, but also because this continues the story of Laura (And Gabby and Johnathan the Wolverine!).

So we see that Laura, X-23, is now on missions to stop clone makers and such. While her trip back to the X-mansion with beast to find out more information is pretty cool, the best part is when Gabby meets the Cuckoos. Since everyone int his book is a clone they can all relate in ways. However, the Cuckoos are up to no good but not as sinister as you may think. Will them crossing paths with X-23 and Gabby being the end for them?

Good: Gabby and Laura's relationship is one of my favorite in comics right now. The big sister, little sister, fighting crime and kicking butt is perfect. I also love the fact the Cuckoos and Laura/Gabby can relate but yet so different. The ending issue is super cute and shows that the series can be light heart even with their dark past. The dialogue is pretty strong too as well as the pacing. Art is solid all around and everyone has a unique look.

Bad: I didn't love the storyline itself. It held no big surprises, and felt kind of safe. I also think you need to know more about the Cuckoos to really appreciate their part and I've only seen them a handful of times so I wasn't feeling their plea to much here.

While maybe not a homerun I still think it's great. It seems to be finding it's footing the longer it goes and I'm hoping Mariko gets to keep writing Laura since she obviously has a good understanding of the character. A 3.5 out of 5, but I'll bump it to a 4.

I swore I reviewed this...but I figured I'd re-read again to refresh myself.

So Kara faces her first real threat on earth. While trying to live her normal life, and of course things don't go well, she gets attacked by a new foe. This causes her to fight back and maybe push herself to far and hurt someone...or something. The later half of the volume covers Kara trying to find out more about herself and then a origin story (like we needed another) of her time before she was shot into space and lost there for a long time.

Good: The art shifts from good to okay but it still looks distinct and still love Supergirl's design. I think the first half is pretty entertaining if not similar to what we've had. I do like this Supergirl is kind of standoffish. I think I would be too after being thrown into a new world and finding out my home is destroyed.

Bad: The origin story feels meh, very very meh. Wasn't needed. Also, I wonder where this story is going? Feels almost pointless and no big ending in sight.

Overall, a okay volume. Probably around a 2.5 but it's decent enough for a 3 in stars.

Whoa, talk about a upgrade.

So last we saw the world has gotten magic back. In doing so, things have changed. As the title suggest, new rules. Right away we are introduced to so many what the fucks it's almost hard to keep up. Giles is back, but as a kid? These new vampires can transform and fight in the sun? What!? Dawn and Xander trying to figure out what the hell their relationship is. Buffy trying her best to hold it all together while counting on her family and friends to help? Now THIS is the Buffy I know and love.

Good: The art is a huge upgrade IMO. Everyone looks distinct and can tell who is who. Fights are better as well. The dialogue is a huge upgrade, and when Dracula comes into play, I was laughing so hard my wife thought I was dying. I also thought the new storylines opened for this season are a huge upgrade and I'm 100% invested. Also, kid giles >>>

Bad: The main storyline in this with Dracula overstays its welcome at points. Started to feel like it dragged or went on too long for me.

Overall, great stuff. This is a nice upgrade from last season which settled with okay to good at points. This is great. A 4 out of 5.
