American Vampire, Vol. 1 by Scott Snyder
4.0

This was pretty good. No clue why I had it at 5 stars before because when I first read American Vampire I didn't like it all that much. I would have given it a 2.5-3. But this time around, I enjoyed it a lot more.

So what is it? Well vampires one day fuck with the wrong cowboy, and that man, Skinner Sweet, becomes the first AMERICAN vampire. What's that you might ask? Well let's just say they are a bit more...monstrous than the regular types. Also, Pearl, our other main character, gets wrapped up in this dark world as well. This Gothic horror series that spreads through many years made a much better impression the 2nd time around.

Good: Really enjoyed the art. While westerns aren't my thing, they did a goodjob between that and the 20's and feeling different. I also enjoyed how little exposition there was. I love Scott Snyder as a person but his latest work is filled with exposition dumps. Here, it flows much better. I also liked the characters for the most part and really eager to see how it all comes together.

Bad: Sometimes the characters motivations seem odd, and also, everyone is a brick. Even Pearl to some extent. I just didn't like anyone, and while I find them interesting, it's nice to like a character.

A 3.5 out of 5, but I'll bump it to a 4 for the art alone. On to the next one!
