The sequel to Kill River was just as fun, campy, and nostalgic to me as the first one. I really enjoy stories with this type of setup - you really get to know the characters before mayhem and chaos both strike. And we get some good slasher-y mayhem in this one!

I love all the references to the 80s songs that Cyndi and other characters hear and think about as the book carries on. Somewhere in the back of my mind I begin to hear that song while I am reading and it becomes a soundtrack to what's happening. As a bonus, Roubique even lists all the songs at the end of the book as if there WAS a soundtrack! Super cool!

If you are a fan of slashers, 80s campy horror, and 80s pop culture, then this is the book and series for you! 5 stars and I am even more excited to see what more Roubique will give me!

This book evoked all the feelings. I laughed, I cried, I reminisced, and I was even on the edge of my seat reading this like Sebastian with The Neverending Story: totally enthralled. Craig Davidson really knows how to hit deep with this one as he tells the story of a young boy and his uncle. The book flashes from the present where our protagonist is a successful neurosurgeon to the past during one summer he will never forget. We get to see how he experienced his summer as a kid versus what he knows happened as an adult. I wish we could believe and have faith longer than we do. I miss that feeling. This story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Davidson has a way with descriptions that will just make you read in awe. Highly recommended story - 5 stars!

The title of this book immediately drew me in to wanting to read this book. Cannibal nuns? FROM OUTER SPACE? Yep! It's like Mystery Science Theater meets B-horror!

The book started out with total slapstick horror vibes, akin to the comedy spoof sequel of The Exorcist starring Linda Blair and Leslie Nielsen, Repossessed. The priest's name was even Father Mayeye (which still makes me laugh). I also wonder if the author is a Grey's Anatomy fan because I was introduced to married couple Meredith and Derek and then another priest was named Father O'Malley. EIther way, I am picking up what the author is putting down!

Then at around 15% the style changed to me. I was no longer laughing like I had been and I was confused and struggling to identify who new characters were that kept being introduced when I was still attached to the others I just met. There was a good 20% of the book I read where it felt like I fell asleep in a movie and woke up and knew nothing that was going on because of how the tone changed and all the characters were brand new. Maybe I missed a transition somewhere and that is what threw me a bit.

I enjoyed the rest of the book and was extremely intrigued and interested in the nuns, their bodily descriptions, what they were doing with bodies and why, etc. It is such a fun concept! But I thought I would be laughing a little more based on the first quarter of the book or so. It went from a campy slapstick horror to more of just a drama horror to me.

It takes a lot more than what I have to come up with something so creative and unique and get it all down on paper. Bradshaw's mind is definitely full of twisted and amazing stories and I am excited to check out some of the backlog and see what else he comes up with! 3.5 stars!

Jaws. I am sure we have all heard about this shark more times than we can remember. So I don't think any sort of a plot rehash is necessary.

What to say about this? I enjoyed the scenery details and the descriptions of some of the shark attacks, etc. There were some great scenes early on and I could really see myself getting scared of Jaws in such a different way while reading this. But that was Part 1 of the book (which is split into a total of three parts).

But as a friend said in a chat the other night, this book should have been called The Amity Affair. TOO much of this book is about an adulterous relationship. I read this book for SHARKS (although he is consistently referred to as "the fish" throughout most of the book). There was not nearly enough BITE in this book for me. Thank the water lords that we have the brilliant minds of Spielberg and Williams to bring this book to the big screen. The sights and music are two of the things that make Jaws JAWS. While I didn't expect that same feeling while reading this book, I did expect more shark and less extramarital affair discussion. Seriously... it's at least 1/3 of the book if not more. Anyway... 3 stars from me on this one!

I really enjoyed this collection of 13 dark tales from Steve Stred! There is one story in particular, "The Witch," that I could have read an entire series about because I think it has the potential to be its own universe! So many of the short stories presented are like that, but The Witch was my absolute favorite. Many of the stories ended with me being like, "What?!" There are no happy endings (well, aside from the first story called "To the Moon - Joy." But then the shadow story that accompanied it, "To the Moon - Sadness" brutally crushed all things joyful in its predecessor! But if you like your dark horror stories with a touch of daunting bleakness, then these are the stories for you.

4 stars to this collection and thanks to the author for a copy in exchange for an honest review!

I LOVE when the endings of one these books totally flips everything and leaves you searching for a sequel further down the series! Fun book that reminded me of being a kid and overcoming what my parents and other adults couldn't see or believe. 4 stars!

So we get to the second book with Slappy and all I can think is, "If this book was for older kids then this dummy would definitely be stabbing people instead of painting words on walls in the middle of the night. " BUT this is what will enable young readers to think of those WHAT IF moments for themselves as they get older and then realize just how scary Slappy and dolls can really be! There's a reason there are still so many horror movies centered around these tiny terrors. R.L. Stine did it again, but way back in 1995! 4 stars!

It's been a little while since I have opened up a fantasy novel and immersed myself in another world totally different from the one I am used to. Isle of Winds is the first book in The Changeling series and it could not have been a better reminder of just how magical and wonderful the world of fantasy is. One can't help but make parallels between other fantasy books and authors when reading sometimes. This is no exception, as others may have also noticed while reading. There are elements of Narnia here. There are Harry Potter vibes happening. But Isle of Winds is still a unique wonder.

I was hooked from page one and I never wanted my journey to end. This book is full of coming-of-age, discovery, magic, friendship, mystery, bravery, loss, and hope.

Fahy crafts characters brilliantly and each with purpose, wit, and charm. There are characters you root for, want to know more about, and some that make you just giddy with joy. Some characters are full of intrigue and you know there is something just beneath the surface - and because this is a series I am sure that I will GET to dive beneath that surface and learn more about them as time goes on. Then there are the characters that you love to hate. Fahy has even made the villains interesting, purposeful, and seductive. When an author can get me invested in EVERY character that is a sign of writing genius.

If you love fantasy books, if you are new to fantasy books, or if you need to be reminded of why you loved fantasy in the first place, I urge you go pick up book number one in The Changeling series! You will not be disappointed - 5 stars!!

This was a fun prequel to read because, having seen the movie before my read of the first book in the series, I KNOW certain things happened in the past of our protagonist. But this book allows the reader to explore what happened in its truth along with the horror and pain. We really get inside Jonas's head and learn a little bit more of how he became the man he is. Fun prequel and definitely recommended!

4 stars!

This book is SO good! Fans of Sara Sheparad will not be disappointed. I love how it is kind of like Pretty Little Liars for ADULTS. I mean, I am an adult and also enjoyed PLL. But the situations these characters are in are definitely more adult-oriented than what the teens in PLL go through. This book has mystery, adultery, secrets, murder, sex, and all sorts of other fun madness. I will never recommend this one enough to any thriller or domestic suspense fan. I had such a great time with it and could barely put it down. This is definitely the type of book I could see in my head playing like a movie or TV series. But that is one of Shepard's gifts; it seems everything she writes is pure gold for the screen! Reputation is NO exception. From underdogs to unreliable narrators/characters, this book has everything you could want in a suspense thriller. 5 stars - HIGHLY recommended and I hope everyone has a chance to pick this one up!
