Isle of Winds
by James Fahy
It's been a little while since I have opened up a fantasy novel and immersed myself in another world totally different from the one I am used to. Isle of Winds is the first book in The Changeling series and it could not have been a better reminder of just how magical and wonderful the world of fantasy is. One can't help but make parallels between other fantasy books and authors when reading sometimes. This is no exception, as others may have also noticed while reading. There are elements of Narnia here. There are Harry Potter vibes happening. But Isle of Winds is still a unique wonder.
I was hooked from page one and I never wanted my journey to end. This book is full of coming-of-age, discovery, magic, friendship, mystery, bravery, loss, and hope.
Fahy crafts characters brilliantly and each with purpose, wit, and charm. There are characters you root for, want to know more about, and some that make you just giddy with joy. Some characters are full of intrigue and you know there is something just beneath the surface - and because this is a series I am sure that I will GET to dive beneath that surface and learn more about them as time goes on. Then there are the characters that you love to hate. Fahy has even made the villains interesting, purposeful, and seductive. When an author can get me invested in EVERY character that is a sign of writing genius.
If you love fantasy books, if you are new to fantasy books, or if you need to be reminded of why you loved fantasy in the first place, I urge you go pick up book number one in The Changeling series! You will not be disappointed - 5 stars!!
