The first in the Millennium series introduces readers to Lisbeth Salander, a heroine unlike any other. Its one of those books that you stay up until the small hours of the morning finishing, not because there is anything earth shattering to learn, but because it is so addictive you just have to read one more page, one more chapter until you come to the end.
Definitely an interesting read. Obviously the Vatican is a very secretive place, but this book might blow your mind a little about the lengths that they will actually go to to protect their way of life. Not the most amazingly written book I've ever read but it definitely fit the bill for an interesting and quick read.
This was the selection for my book club this month. It was very readable, I devoured this book. I have to say that I kind of saw the ending coming but it was still enjoable to read. I don't think that I liked Dexter that much. Not being the kind of girl that falls all over herself for the damaged bad boy it was hard for me to get what all the fuss was about for Emma. But I really liked the premise of the book, coming back to these characters and their lives on the same day over 20 years. I also really related to a lot of Emma's professional difficulties early in the book, the desire to somehow "change the little bit of the world around you." It was good but not great.
Its no wonder this book was chosen as one of the best books of the 20th Century! Its incredible. The story of Francie Nolan and her family making a go of the American dream in turn-of-the-century Brooklyn is so moving and inspiring and great. Even decades after it was published it still has the capacity to resonate with readers and its almost too easy to read. A book from 1943 shouldn't be so readable. I loved every page and I'm so glad that this was the book that I started 2011 with!
