This was fun though fast-paced. I need that cloak of colors!

Dry introduction and the dialogue is awkward. At one point, a character calls an adult Mom for no reason. Still, there are a few touching moments, and the character Kanata acts like a supped-up Boy Scout. Ultimately, this series did not hook me despite ending on “there’s a traitor among us.”

The artwork is so cute and endearing. <3 You've to have some serious suspension of disbelief (the story tries to address some issues instead of ignoring the elephant in the room), but this wasn't bad. Not sure why the ladies and Read follow Anne to hell and back, but maybe that's unnecessary filler.

Good for a relatively quick read.

I didn't know what to think of this story at first. Basically, a young, Bajan writer helps pen the biography for a seemingly cantankerous woman. But beyond that, is Barbadian history, warmth, wisdom, and a little mystery (though Lia is a bit dull when compared to the other cast if characters). The pacing isn't bad, but you have to eat your vegetables to get to the good stuff.

This was terribly dry. I’m not against isekai stories, but nothing was endearing here. Everything felt so lackluster and flat. Akira’s not that interesting though, at least, he can recognize something’s up. He figures everything out so quickly though! The pacing is extremely fast, and new characters pop out of every corner—or, uh, page turn.

There’s really nothing making me want to read a volume 2.

The art style is fun and chaotic, but I didn’t enjoy anything from this story.

Stories rated by enjoyment. While this anthology wasn’t for me, I’m always glad for more diverse stories.

What Is a Pow Wow (3 stars)

A cute, healthy portrayal of a mom’s boyfriend and a kid bonding.

Fancy Dancer (2 stars)

Grandad finds his love for dance again.

Warriors of Forgiveness (2 stars)

Feels way too good to be true. Not the part about older people’s too-trusting nature.

Brothers (3 stars)

Rez Dogs (2 stars)

Strong ending

Secrets and Surprises (2 stars)

Wendigos Don’t Dance (3 stars)

Indian Price (3.5 stars or 4ish)

Senecavajo (2.5 stars)

Unlikely friendship with the school bully? I guess. Still, I liked this one.

Squash Blossom Bracelet: Kevin’s Story (3 stars)

Ohhh, a dual POV. Somehow, I liked Kevin’s narrative the slightest bit more than Alan’s.

Joey Reads the Sky (3 stars)

What We Know About Glaciers (3.5 stars)

If you’re not taking care of yourself, you’re no good to anyone else.

Little Fox and the Case of the Missing Regalia (2 stars)

The Ballad of Maggie (3 stars)

Bad Dog (3 stars)

Between the Lines (3 stars)

Circles (3.5 stars)

Pepper Page: Saves the Universe is a bit like a love letter to comic book fans. Here, Pepper reacts how a normal person would suddenly thrust inside their beloved comic book with powers and all.

The art style is the real merit here! I though the artwork was very stylized, impactful, and colorful. On the other hand, the story, the characters, and the big bad felt weak to me.
every villain doesn’t have to have a backstory. Killian believes helping others is just a waste of time. Reminds me of Yu Yu Hakusho where one the villains grew up with loving parents and a great childhood but decided to become evil just because. Some fools just evil.

I would be interested in a book two, but I thought this was overall very lackluster.

I read Dawn of the Arcana when I around 16 or 17 (despite Caesar being way too pushy in his introduction, tho he mellows out), and it is one of my favorite shoujo manga. I was surprised to hear the series got a spin-off.

I feel like things are moving too quickly, but the initial premise is already set up. I’m not dazzled by anything, but I’ll consider reading a volume two to see if it can capture my interest.

SN: There’s a The Water Dragon’s Bride oneshot at the end!
