Definitely a middling cookbook. The first half with eggs and french toast recipes felt route and not worth it. (Really, do we need a recipe for scrambled eggs or sunny side up eggs?!) The muffins and breads were much more innovative. But the author's ridiculous perkiness was annoying.

It's slow going at first. But then as the war picks up and Blanche gets more involved in the resistance, it speeds up a bit. Not the best French resistance novel I've read by far, but a mostly enjoyable read.

I wanted to love this cookbook! The pantry section and the information on each vegetables for storing/buying etc. was great. But the recipes? Meh. Too much reliance on a lot of oil (2 T at a minimum for most recipes) and spendy fresh herbs. Ultimately just not for me

This isn't a cookbook you really read for the recipes. It's a cookbook you read for the stories and the history. I would have preferred more stories and fewer recipes, honestly!

I really liked Day's Power Bowls so picked up her newest cookbook. I wasn't nearly as impressed. In theory, it's a good cookbook - recipes to perk up your lunch time and creative ways to pack salads, soups, and stews for transporting to make them stay for lunch without becoming slimy. Almost of the recipes don't require reheating so no waiting in line for the microwave. But... Almost all the recipes require cooking. And quite a bit of it. I understand the idea of meal prepping but on a Sunday I'm supposed to meal prep my lunches in addition to everything else? It sounds exhausting.
