I- I loved this. The TENSION and intrigue were absolutely amazing. The banter and dialogue were incredible, and the love story was so freaking swoony and absolutely scorching hot. Whew.
Jerry Crozier is bae and Alec deserves nothing less. had read Rat Catcher's Daughter as a prequel and cannot wait to get into Susan's story in Gilded Cage.

An absolutely emotional, sad, SLOG through the run up and immediate aftermath of Culloden. The stars are all of the side characters - I had a hard time getting emotionally invested in the main couple which is so odd, but Marsha put most of the emotional development into the rest of the cast, unfortunately. Also check the CW, there are many and they are INTENSE. This is a WAR first and a romance second.

Fascinating and funny, I will never feel bad about saying “like” and “um” again. Everyone should read this.

I wish the ratings went higher because this book deserves infinite stars. WHAT AN EMOTIONAL RIDE. The pining! The caretaking (emotional)! The absolute stunning supremacy of a friends to lovers plot! This book has it all as well as a scientific genius (not the one you think!)

This book was very plot forward, solidly in the bonkers fun zone. It's set in 1100 but the characters act a little bit like they're living in the 1980s. Jamie, the FMC, was really fun to read and there were a lot of running gags that were quite funny. Alec, the MMC, basically just lived to push Jamie's buttons and vice versa.
Ultimately this was far sweeter and funnier than I hoped but it was also a little frenetic. As far as consent, I felt like it was very comfy, it's a marriage of convenience but there's no bodice ripping or forced seduction. Jamie has a lot of agency and she is kind of a badass.
