Excellent. I love the world of talking, living books - even if some of those books have antagonistic tendencies towards people. This is a fan-service adventure for book nerds and I couldn’t be happier to have experienced it.

My favorite retelling of a fairy tale so far. Completely captivating, with great characters and wonderful storytelling. There is a certain amount of angst in the book, which only served to prime me for years when the characters are at their most vulnerable moments. I can’t wait to read the next novels in the series!

Great middle book in a trilogy. I don’t know who I’m cheering for anymore and I love it. I love the new characters (Lia Mara, Iisak, Tycho) and I think Grey and Lia Mara make a great pair. I’m so excited for the next book!

A wild ride. So many twists and turns and secrets hidden. An excellent take on the classic murder mystery with a fresh twist. In fact, it’s kind of hard to keep track of all the different people. (There was one point where the MC realized something and I read the line about 10 times trying to figure out what he meant. I still don’t know, but I’m forgiving the book of that.) A wonderful read. Fully deserves each of those stars - and more if I could give them.

+2 stars for the sheer ingenuity of it all, +2 stars for a well written mystery, +1 star for surprising me, +10000000 stars because I just love this book.

This one is more serious and melancholy, but such is the effects of war. Well written, characters are well portrayed. I’m starting the last book in the series ASAP. I can’t wait to see where this goes.

This is the last book in a series that is greatly important to me. My father read The Golden Compass to my brothers and I when we were young and I continued on with the series. I started the series again to read along with the HBO adaption (which I enjoyed). And the books are just perfect. Tense and exciting and wondrous and magical. Reading them is an adventure of a lifetime and The Amber Spyglass is the perfect conclusion to the series.

I would read an entire second book of people just living their lives in this steampunk setting. It’s light and fluffy, and no one really gets mad at each other for anything, which I both appreciate and wanted just a touch more conflict. Likewise, the ending is also... well, this is why it’s called fantasy because the ending is unrealistically happy and I loved it. Actually, that sums up how I feel about this book. Unrealistically happy and I loved it.

Great. Perfect. Everything I wanted on a day when I feel like less than myself - exciting, fun, surprising and altogether lovely. Thank you for this book. Truly.

Snowspelled is the kind of book that I enjoyed while reading it but the more time I spend thinking about it after I finished it, the more I find wrong with it. So, I’m just going to end the review here and just let it be a book I enjoyed.
