The writing style doesn’t work for me. It’s too … obvious almost. Everything is too on the nose.
I just… the pacing is weird. The random and frequent jumps in narrative is a lot and I think mysteries are just better with one narrative, so there’s more mystery. More wondering what’s going on, more for the MC to find out and put together for the reader.
Maybe I’ll return to this at some point, but it’s just not the right book for right now.

The chosen one trope just isn’t for me. On top of that, post apoc fiction has a 99% fail rate for me as well, so I’m just going to call it now.
Everything has resolved. Good. Great. End of book.
This is an odd book. There’s the random POV jump to one of the big bads that’s completely unnecessary, and just a general need for editing (ie. Alec suddenly referring to himself as Carter and then never again). But my breaking point was when Mira says that she knows her skin color will work against her, but she wants to stay in the 1920s anyway. I’m not a person of color but that ….feels supremely reductive.
