Oh my gosh, this book! This is definitely one of my first favorite books of the year and I have read a lot of amazing books so far this year.
Enchantèe takes place right before the French Revolution in Paris and Versailles. Camille and her sister Sophie are struggling to make ends meet, their brother Alain always wants money from them, and they are starving. After Camille is done with Alain always coming around to take their things, she decides to rob the aristocrats in Versailles by cheating at gambling by using a glamorie.
I loved all the characters in this book and they were super well written. You feel sympathy, hate, and love for a lot of the characters. The magic system is clever and I love how Camille uses her magic to turn cards and put on a disguise to win a lot of money. However, with magic comes great responsibility and has consequences.
I definitely recommend this book, you will not want to miss out on this and see Camille, Sophie, and Lazare’s life unfold with trying to figure where they fit in.

First of all, I am a sucker for retellings and royalty.
Prince Rhen is cursed by an enchantress that he is denied. Prince Rhen must find a girl to fall in love with him before he becomes a monster and destroys everything he loves in Emberfall. He lives in the same season over and over again and each season has a different girl who is chosen by the Captain of the Guard, Grey.
Harper lives in modern day Washington D. C. and has cerebral palsy. Her mother is dying of cancer. And on top of that her and her brother are trying to pay off their dead-beat father’s debt.
However, one night when Harper is out standing guard for her brother, Harper sees a man with an unconscious woman. Harper goes after the man, but is instead taken to Emberfall.
There Harper must find a way to get home or fall in love with Prince Rhen while she sees the hardships and blights that have been plaguing Emberfall.
I loved the characters and how each character was well developed. Harper definitely grew a lot from beginning to end and went from being whiny to a strong, brave girl. I love how she has a disability and it didn’t stop her from horseback riding, fighting, and helping others.
The world building was just amazing. I could imagine how Emberfall looked like and wished I could be in the palace, minus when Rhen is a monster.
I docked a half a star because there were a few places that dragged.
I highly recommend this book. There is a sequel, however this book wraps up nicely and doesn’t have a huge cliff hanger, so if you want a satisfying ending, then this is the book for you.

When Leigh Bardugo announced she was going to do a series on Nikolai, I got super excited. At the time of the announcement I was reading the Shadow and Bone series and was in love with Nikolai’s character. So, I knew this would be good.
For full disclosure I still need to read Ruin and Rising and Crooked Kingdom, so I got small little spoilers throughout this book, but nothing too bad. Anyone really can read this book and not be lost.
King of Scars takes place 3 years after the events in Ruin and Rising. This book is told in a few different point of views, which I liked because by the end of the book everything was connected and set up for the next book.
This book was beautifully written and just amazing. It was heart breaking, exciting, and learning to redeem yourself. I really loved Nina’s point of view since she was dealing with a lot and was struggling. There was a ton of growth in these characters and I’m so excited to see where Leigh Bardugo takes the next book. Plus, the ending was oh my freaking gosh! If you read it, you know what I mean.

Emily has bipolar disorder, but she tends to manage it with medicine and lives a pretty normal life. She has a handsome boyfriend and works as a psychologist with children.
One day, her boyfriend convinces her to sleep on a sailboat with him. When she wakes up, he is gone and no where to be found. The police either think she killed him in a rage or he somehow drowned.
But, Emily does not think he is dead or drowned. What could have happened to him though?
I really love the concept of this book and I thought it had a good start of a foundation for an amazing book. I found this one to run flat though. There was really no anticipation or oh my gosh moments. It felt mundane. I enjoyed reading through Emily’s perspective and seeing her go from great to terrible, back to sane. But, the action and the pacing was just not doing it for me.

If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would because it deserves far more than 5.
Alina is living in Poland during the time the Nazi invasion occurs during World War 2. She is the youngest of her family and spoiled as well as engaged to Tomasz. The war makes her go from this spoiled little seventeen girl into a woman who learns through her trials, poverty, and a new bitter world.
Alice is living in 2019 and her Babcia (grandmother) suffered a stroke and is hospitalized. Her grandmother asks her to go to Poland to find out a mystery of what she left behind. This causes problems for Alice because she doesn’t know exactly what her grandmother wants from her because her grandmother cannot speak due to the stroke. So, she uses Alice’s iPad to communicate off an app that is used for Alice’s autistic son, Eddie.
How will Alina and Alice’s life interwine?
This story was beyond beautiful and well crafted. There was so much growth in both characters and the people surrounding them. Be sure to grab tissues because the end will make you emotional.

The writing is beautiful, however it really lacks depth. By depth, I mean that the character development and world building seemed to lack and be one dimensional. It has a good plot, but could have been delved into more to make this amazing.
I do like the plot twist that happened mid way in the book, but once it occurred, I became very bored because the mystery of the book was gone.

Usually cover sucker me into making me want to read the synopsis and want to read a book. This is what Bloodleaf did. Plus, it has royalty in it and fantasy in it, so totally what I love.
Aurelia is a Princess and she is supposed to marry a Prince from a different land, but she doesn’t want to. However, people in her country are killed if they are blood mages, which is her biggest secret.
One night her secret comes out and she must flee with her brother and a few trusted people. However, things go awry. Aurelia is forced to escape and use a different name in a foreign country, which is the country of her betrothed’s. While in Achleva, the foreign country, she meets some interesting people who she is to help break a spell and to stop a wall from coming down. Through this journey of seeing a different life, a different country, and living with different people, she develops friendships and love.
Can we just take a second to admire this cover? Anyway, I devoured this book and could not put it down. In fact, I really want the sequel now because I cannot get this story out of my head. I tried reading this book at any chance I got. The magic system of blood was executed well and is a system I have not seen before. I love Aurelia’s and Zan’s character developments as well as the plot twists, which one of them made me gasp. And that plot twist that made me gasp was the last chapter I was reading before bed a few nights ago, so I was super bummed I had to go to bed at a reasonable time to wake up refreshed for work.
I was lucky to buy Bloodleaf a bit early from Barnes and Noble. It releases 3/12/19. Go buy it, you definitely won’t regret it!

Queenie is 25 and lives in England. Her and her boyfriend Tom have been together for 3 years, but he wants to take a break. Queenie moves out and misses Tom a lot and believes that the timeline Tom gave her for them to get back together will come true. Due to this break, Queenie starts to spiral out of control. She is having a harder time with work and is sleeping with any man that gives her attention.
Queenie explores Blacks Lives Matter, culture, mental illness, breakups, and friendship.
It took me two days to read Queenie and I wouldn’t say it is a light read. There is a lot of humor in it for sure, but there are some heavy topics addressed in this book. I did dock a star because I felt like once I was halfway through it dragged for a bit. Other than that Queenie was very enjoyable. I loved seeing the culture of Queenie’s family, her friendships, and I loved the humor in the book.

Daisy Jones and the Six is a novel that is told through interviews of a fictional band. It follows the before the band formed, the fame, and the aftermath. It is set in the 1970’s and definitely shows the rock’n roll, sex, and drugs.
This book enchanted me and is definitely one of my favorites this year and of all time. I felt like this band was real and that I personally knew each character personally. It was just done so well. I read this is a day and already want to reread this. This is a MUST read!
