This book (circa 1890) reminds me of why I don’t read British classic literature- too much saying something without saying it. It has an interesting unique plot, ominous, creepy, but not scary (unless you were actually there, then I would be like, bye Felicia). I liked the androgenous/gender doesn’t matter aspect of the lead character and the confusing long winded explanation of her gender was quite unique. I was annoyed by all the Galacian references, but you see pride for the culture and I can appreciate that. Although I was offended, and amused by the dislike/assumptions about Americans (USA here). Book did have some comedy , but not overtly so. Overall, book was well written and holds my attention. Luckily, it is short.

This book has been all over the internet, I felt a compulsion to read it. It was good, but not sure what all the hype was about. I'm not sure if the suspense was really good, or if the anticipation based on the hype is why I think it was so good. I enjoyed reading the book though. I enjoyed Verity's bluntness in her autobiography. and the book was a good excuse for CH to talk extensively about oral sex (blow kind). There were many attention grabbing statements and a few plot holes. If you want a full synopsis of the book without reading it, read the ending chapter. Overall, CH is a good writer, but very hyped up. That turns me off. Moving on.

This blend of fantasy/sci fi/comedy was really good. There is a large cast and variety of characters that are easy to keep straight. I love flawed characters. The plot line was fun and serious. There were many twists, turns, and suspensefulness. I love the story line, which was fast paced. There is lots of killing, but not too gory, so YA friendly. Good intro to many adult themes. Great book that I can’t believe is a debut for this author.

This is a great followup. Rue/Jelani is turning her sights on returning the stolen magic. I like all the new characters, the love interest storyline, you got Julius returning, and of course the Chancelor. I like how street smart Rue is so she reads people well and has good instincts. This story is about not only getting back the stolen magic, but also believing in your own. Great story, loved it. It flowed well, despite a lot of back and forth around Ghizon. This book is a testament to how strong a sibling bond is, even a manipulative one. It had a great plot, and was suspenseful with several twists. It was fun, and I found myself laughing out loud many times. I was also pissed and sad, which made me shouting at other times. It is a short and easy read. I enjoyed it a lot. Well written. The Undead Truth of Us was definitely not what I thought. I was expecting zombie walking around, and this was definitely not that. It is a unique book about dealing with grief with some edge too it. Descriptive and gruesome at times, but not scary. I felt she it was a bit slow, but still a fun read. Zharie is an actual teen, not some wanna be grown child, so I appreciated that. Bo had some game too. Ending is a bit shocking/open ended, and looks like it will have a sequel.

Ring Shout was amazing. I got it from my local library and also listened via audio book. Amazing narrator. This book shows the struggle of race relations and also how whites people attempt to manipulate black people for their own agenda. The monsters origination was so original and gruesome. I loved the African foIklore/myths. even looked up that damn movie Birth of a Nation (pissed me off), but did not watch it. I have been to Stone Mountain too. That place and all the replicas of slave housing and such, pissed me off too. It is intriguing to think and read about history, but to see it is eye opening. This book is a trip. Well written, fast paced, shocking, twists, and suspenseful. I clocked what was happening about ⅓ through, but was still entertained to see it through. Nana definitely is a character and is obsessed with men and sex. Troy is foul and Monica needs to stand up for herself and not turn a blind eye. I wanted to choke the little girl. The Haunting of La'Quishia Brown was a unique story told from the perspective of a 14 yr old girl. However, I did feel it was told very formal and plain text. While at times it seems it is a child's perspective, others seemed more grown. Premise was unique and fun, which is sad because it is supposedly based on a true story. Lots of sad parts too, but not sure if some are true or in her head (I mean she is a child). Definitely makes your weary of helping people out, even friends. It speaks heavy on religion toward the end, which kind of came out of nowhere. Also there are many life affirming quotes throughout, which made me want to write sticky notes and stick on my mirror. "Don't make permanent decisions, based on temporary problems". I enjoyed the story and was vested in this girl's story. I wish her well.

Trick or Treat had a lot of characters with multiple names for each and the action description was complicated so I was confused. Book has a simple plot, take kids trick or treating, but it seems so much more complicated. Also Damon's surprise at the beginning was so odd, and not explained when more details could have been gotten for a better understanding. Definitely some plot holes in this book. This is part of a series so while you don't need to read the previous book, it would serve for better understanding to do so. Pretty long series too. Overall, fun story, short, fast paced, just long series that I don't feel vested in to continue. Also book could use some edits.
