Skin of the Sea is a beautifully told YA fantasy that incorporates a sad reality of the world’s history. It took me a while to get in the book because I was in my feelings and kept stopping. After the 2nd chapter, I was in a groove then. I love the incorporation of African folklore and language. It did not make it difficult to read even though I do not know the language. I do think the love story was a bit underplayed, but this is YA. This book is highly original, I connected with a few of the characters and had a lot of emotions reading the book. It gave me a bit of Lord of the Rings vibe: the epic quest for rings and picking up people along the way. Great book. Check out my Youtube channel review of it. Next book comes out in September.

Fun comic, bright colors, beautiful latino Marvel superhero with a bunch of random diverse race and styled characters. I felt comic was trying too hard for diversity, but I like the effort. I think she looks different throughout the book, is not a typical thin character (at times), is oversexed, glamorous, and skanky dressing at times. Not sure I think that is the best representation for a female to idol; however, look at Wonderwoman. Story line is good, although too quick and with a simple resolution. Fun read, but I def think it could be better. Illustrations are done well.

Nettle and Bone has a great plot, is hilarious in so many ways, and has a great cast of odd balls, animals included. It packs a lot in a small book. It is written well and goes quickly. I definitely enjoy a short complete fantasy that doesn’t skimp. This one is a perfect template to follow.

The Night Circus has a love letter to the antiquated venue of the circus. Based on the descriptions as times, I could almost smell the popcorn and other foods. It was original, very detail oriented, mysterious and kept me intrigued til the end. The multiple timelines and locations threw me until I decided to just concentrate on the years. There were many characters, some more integral than others, and it took me a minute to remember them. Everything came together when I just concentrated on the story. The love story was nice, but I didn’t connect with it. Seemed frivolous, because they barely knew each other, but there were some heartfelt moments. So if you like stories that talk about magic and what it can do, this is the story. Check out my Youtube channel for more info.

I stopped reading this book at about 80 pages. The shadow magic is too abstract and I couldn’t understand it or get into it. It seems Charlie creates her own drama and has low self esteem. Even though there is a murder by the time I quit, I didn’t feel interested enough to continue. That said, if you like this type of magical element, it is described very well. Lots of detail (and I still didn’t get it). Book is written well and author has a talent for intricate storytelling.

I found this book too juvenile for my taste. Definitely feels like YA reading. Young characters throwing themselves into crazy adventures. Trying too hard to be a western and sci fi. Some parts were funny, but I refuse to stick around for the next 4 books.

I love love the John Wick movies, so I figured it would be fun to read the book. Not as fun as the movie. I think if pictures would have been included and if it was smaller, I would have liked it better. I didn't expect it to be so big, so I mostly skimmed and read around. I learned a lot about the production, how it was a male version of Atomic Blonde and about gun fu. So funny a term. I was disappointed that in the beginning when all the credits for the major players in the book/movie were discussed, Lance Reddick who played Charon, the front desk clerk at the Continental, was not mentioned. It seemed everyone else who had any part in the movie was. What's up with that? But great book with all the details. No fluff, it digs in deep.

Absolutely hilarious book of a woman who moved to Alaska to find a husband. She might be on to something ladies. Feminists will hate this book, but I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. I was laughing out loud through most of this book and was sad to see it end. SImple-minded people that didn't try too hard to resist each other. Loved it.

This innocent looking graphic novel is a deceivingly dark, murderous, gory, and hilarious. I laughed throughout the entire thing. I love a strong female character and Priscilla did not disappoint. The birds were so funny. This book may be thick but it is a quick read. So glad I gave it a chance.
