The writing style of this book is just as erratic and mad as the main racist sexual psychopath serial killer character. The privilege of this man failed all his victims. For what this book is, I would give it 5 stars, but as a black person reading this and the racist, yet probably maybe true statements spoken of, and the use of the “n****r” word a couple times, I will give it a 4. Definitely a unique book.

I got this book through my local library; however, why is this book $79 (through Amazon)?! Book is 181 pages with lots of simple black/white illustrations and a lot of spaces from one chapter to the next. Not paying for words for sure.

This second book in The Elite 3 series brings in Amiyah and her connection with Derek (DJ). A lot more action, a lot of mind reading, and more sexually charged references (all you get is a kiss though). You get the knowledge of vampire info, but not really anything else about it. So many things in this book didn’t add up for me, beginning with the holes in everyone’s stories and the characters haveno desire to tease them out. If these books were not so short, I would not read them. Book left on a bit of a cliff hanger, and not sure when the third book will be coming out.

This black YA fantasy has a great plot of a girl learning she has these magical abilities, unknown family, hidden secrets, young love, and action. However, I think execution is not that great. There is a lot of jumping around without great explanations, I felt no connections to and between the characters, and the action moved and was resolved way too quickly. It was a quick read and I was entertained though. On to reading the second book.

Started out great, then dare I say too much sex. Too much rough sex with huge male junk and I am sore reading the book. Girl can take a lot and it seams like she got thrashed and came back for more. The skirting the line of consent in one area of the book may be an issue, but for what this book is, I didn’t have a problem with it. Nice plot twist at the end. It also had funny and shocking humor. Just because of the cheese and too much sex, especially in the nasty ass dirt, I don’t plan to continue the next book. Kinda wish I would have read book 2 first.

Great characterization of not belonging and searching for something. The reason for the boyfriend not willing to commit was a unique perspective. Some honor, I get that but they doing everything but, come on. Great science, plot, action. Too much getting to know new people and intertwining from other books though. I think the story was longer than it needed to be for possibly that reason. But it was good and I enjoyed it. Steamy.

I was a bit let down by how sentimental this story is. After what he whispered in Sparkle’s ear in the beginning, I was expecting a wilder ride than what we got. But it was a great story. I definitely want a Lure in my life. I dreamed about sexual chocolate that night for sure. However, I do have an issue that he didn’t want her to bathe herself. Come on dude, give home girl some space. On to the next story.

Black fantasy about reincarnated gods walking amongst us, with the sexy romantic component of them finding, and screwing the woman that will make them even more powerful. I’m all about it. The only thing I don’t like is they are street magician performers. I think that is cheesy, partly because it is and also because I don’t like when I see my black men on the corners doing those performances in real life. At least these are not begging for change. Jinx is an immature boy who elevates himself luckily. Glitter (what the heck is up with all these girls names) is a virgin who turns hoe girl real quick. That was so disappointing, but I get it girl. I think Jinx deserves an ass whooping for that one. He’s also a stalker. Overall, a great book, short read with a lot of substance besides romance and sex. Definitely recommend.

A God with a grill, that reminds me of rapper Nelly. OK, so he sexy, but he doing sweet yet wild girl Blossom wrong and sending mixed signals. And she need to stop chasing that fool. Now that that is out of my system, I can say I enjoyed this book. The time travel component was unexpected and a great addition. I expected more drama, but you know Nikki Clark give you just enough for your pages, so I’m good with that. I was sad towards the end really believing something particular was gonna happen. I have mixed feelings about if I would have preferred it. When you read, you will know what I am talking about. Great book. Gonna read more by this author.

Once I got used to the style of writing, I was able to enjoy the book. Suspenseful, kinda creepy, and ending stays with you. Good little book. I flew threw it.

Check your ego and assumptions at the door. This is a raw book that doesn’t hold back what Sesali Bowen thinks. And she says it so intelligently that even if you don’t agree, it is hard to say she is wrong. This book is so unlike any other book I have read and I appreciate that. It gave me so much to think about that it took me a longer time to finish this book. And that is not a bad thing. She touches on any and every issue for a black women, and as a black woman I appreciate that. She knows her shit. She gives power to black women to be themselves, in whatever form that is. I didn’t know most of the artists she spoke of, but was still able to enjoy the book. And she gives a reference in the back of the book if you are really interested in looking it up.
