spoopywife's Reviews (918)

I really liked the premise of this one! Seems really cheesy on the surface, but it actually worked really well with these characters. The journey they went on together in their relationship was so fun to watch!

Fell in love with the characters and was really invested in their relationship. Super duper cute!

This memoir was difficult to read at times and I admire Tara Westover for being brave enough to publish her experiences. Her story is impactful and has the potential to inspire so many to either cut ties or create boundaries with dysfunctional family members. Her honesty and humility were evident throughout the story and she makes you feel like a friend.

I knew the basics about Scientology before going into this memoir, but Leah Remini delved deeper than the surface level. This was definitely an enlightening read! I haven't seen any of her body of work, so I wasn't too compelled by that aspect. However, that's completely subjective and doesn't reflect the quality of her writing. Everything felt natural and like a friend recounting events.

This is what true journalism should be! Tom O'Neill managed to write an objective accounting of events and facts. He even states that he does not wish to tell the reader what to believe, but to enable them to draw their own conclusions.

I'm a frugal reader and utilize as many free resources, such as libraries, as I can. I only buy books if I love them and believe I will come back to them again and again. This book is jam-packed with so much interesting information that I feel I could read it multiple times and still learn something new. Therefore, I will be buying a copy as soon as possible.

Robert Kolker doesn't linger on the details of the murders, speculate on who commited the murders, or what their motive may have been. He chooses, instead, to focus on the victims and their families. He calls out the bias against sex workers that tends to be prevalent in the media and law enforcement. This bias led to the system failing these women and leaving their families without answers.

Predictable now, but it would definitely have been a great twist at the time it was released. A super strong beginning to a series.

Interesting premise and the twist was good, but the plot felt a but convoluted and the end felt a little too easily tied up.

I would just like to start by saying this book is insanely good. If you haven't read it yet: Do it. Right now. Go.

I highly recommend the audiobook, whether on its own or with a physical copy. The rep was fantastic. The premise was intriguing. I couldn't have even imagined the twist, which was absolutely bonkers. After the twist, it's absolute mayhem and I loved it.

I enjoyed the main characters on their own for the first few chapters, but didn't really enjoy them as a couple. The romance was really insta-love and I feel like the couple's interactions were used to talk more about the author's social and political views than actually get to see the characters as a couple.
