I'm really happy that I gave this another shot when I was more in the mood for a fantasy. It's a wild ride and I don't know that I could really explain the book but I really enjoyed it. I know Liliath is the villain that I'm not really supposed to like but...I do? All the characters had a purpose and while the book is 500+ pages, it felt like I ran through the book without thinking of how long it was.

I am actually incredibly pleasantly surprised by this book!
I really enjoyed the world. Books set in our world but with magic can be hit or miss for me. This really worked! While it is in our world, there's so much of the magic that I really forgot it was our world. It was made into the world CM McGuire needed for this story! It was clearly our world but the author added so much with the magical creatures, family backstory, and the fae court that it felt "wrong" when I thought of it as our world.
The characters were enjoyable. I've grown up in a not "ideal" family household and struggled with anxiety and depression for like 10+ years now so it was really nice to have a Bryn tackling those things and be the hero. I really felt the struggle within Bryn's family and friends. From her younger twin brothers to her father's illness to her mother being gone to the role of Gwen, Dom, and Jasinka and the priest trying to help her take on the Court Fae. Of the entire cast, Bryn and Dom were my favourite which was awesome because they got a lot of screentime.
It was also honestly just refreshing to read a book with fae in it where they aren't the main POV and are honestly just not the best of people/creatures. Maybe that will evolve and we will get more of their perspective on why they do what they do.
Now one thing that did surprise me was the ending which is VERY left open for a sequel so I really hope there is a follow-up. It's currently not labeled as such on GoodReads so I hope it's not a stand-alone with an incredibly open ending!
Rep: f/f romance, asexual male, anxiety

So traditional YA fantasy is a genre of books that I've been seriously struggling with this year. I find myself bored and feel like I'm just rereading the same stories with the same characters (just with different names). Now I don't think anyone would argue that this book strays from the tried and true structure of YA fantasies...nor that the characters were anything unique but I for some reason INHALED this book. Maybe I really jived with the writing? It was good enough that even when the main character made some astoundingly stupid decisions that a blind grandmother could see coming...I still enjoyed the book. I've thrown books at the wall for doing that stuff but not this one! I enjoyed the whole thing!
As a fan of weird and twisted books...I loved this but it's def not a book for everyone
3/5
I feel sad and disappointed. I freaking LOVE The Never Tilting World so much! The sequel is one of my most anticipated reads. I wasn't going in expecting The Bone Witch to be the same book and I assumed Wicked As You Wish was just "not for me" or a book I should read when I'm in a different mood but...I'm starting to think Chupeco's books just aren't for me and The Never Tilting World is the exception.
I didn't hate this but it just didn't...do anything for me. It was okay but not something I'd go buy or reread or finish the series of.
I tried to separate the story from the audiobook narrator I was reading along with (side note: that narrator gets far too many of the books I want to read! Why?!) because I cannot stand her voice and how she makes every female character sound like a timid damsel in distress.

This was a fun read! Jane Austen meets a murder mystery and amateur sleuth!
I will fully admit that I have read a lot of Jane Austen (thanks to university) and not been a huge fan of any so I cannot speak to any of the contrasts between Pride and Prejudice and this book but as a mass consumer of female sleuths going against gender norms of society...I loved this. I liked the liberties Tirzah Price took in order to create Jane's personality and conflict that wasn't just a "being a woman sucks in this time period." The romance with Darcy was very present and I liked the banter/tension/conflict between them.
I did NOT see the twists at the end for who was at fault for the pirating of ships and the murders. I can also really appreciate it wasn't a simple ending with just one bad person.
The cover is absolutely stunning.
