I really enjoyed reading this book. Radtke talks about a range of topics like her own personal experience with loneliness, laugh tracks, and individualism that is promoted in American culture. The monkeys were hard to read about but there weren’t any graphic pictures. I’ve seen people complaining there wasn’t a solution but I don’t think she needed to offer one since this was just a journey. There were a couple points in the book where I felt like they were jumping around too much but I still enjoyed it. I liked the way the book was split up.

Idk what I was expecting when reading this but it wasn’t what I was expecting! I really enjoyed it but it was also kind of spooky because it feels like we aren’t that far away from something like this happening, water being more expensive than gas and all that.

The writing in this book is absolutely beautiful. I loved the characters and felt everything they go through. I liked the variety of perspectives that we got. I love Agnes. The ending gave me chills. Definitely a new favorite.

The letter the father writes to his young son reflecting on his own childhood really pulls at the heartstrings. The illustrations are fantastic and make you pause.
I’m not that interested in reading a story from the perspective of a racist, horny teenage boy. I marked the spots in the book that I personally found to be red flags in the first 76 pages and there were like 6 of them.

A good place to start when looking for books about unhinged women. It was interesting to read about her relationship with her parents and Reva. I didn’t so much like the ending. I worry that this book will give people ideas.

Very informative book on dealing with the alt-right from the perspective of someone who used to be a member of the white supremacist movement. It was really insightful to see how he handled people trying to get out of the movement and different tactics he used. It was disappointing to read about how he got brushed aside by the FBI and police. I was surprised to learn that a lot of people who join the skinheads have an autism disorder. I didn’t so much like that he talked about finding out people’s “potholes”. Just call it trauma dude.

Very insightful look at being transgender and having dissociative identity disorder. It also showed why dissociative identity disorder can develop. Her journey was heartbreaking and I’m so glad she was able to find the resources she needed eventually. Fuck Toby, we hate Toby.

A lot of the poems had to do with his dad, immigration, and his sexuality. There are many poems in this collection that are from different people’s perspectives. Honestly it was kind of hard for me to get into at first but then I got really into it. There’s part of one poem that I can’t get out of my head,
“Dear god, if you are a season, let it be the one I passed through
to get here.
Here. That’s all I wanted to be.
I promise.”

Didn’t like the portrayal of a mentally handicapped kid and how the other kids treated him.
