These graphic novels are such a fun way to revisit this series!
I received a free copy from St. Martin's Press in exchange for my honest review.
I didn't want it to end! This is a very moving collection of poems, enhanced by beautiful illustrations.

CW: mass shooting, gun violence
I'm not even sure I can do this book justice with a review. This book has a very unique style in that it is told in verse from multiple perspectives. As a current, but not native, Ohioan, I knew very little about the Kent State shootings prior to reading this book. It was clearly very well-researched and I learned so much in so few pages. This was my favorite book that I read in September 2020 and I'm looking forward to also listening to the audiobook because I hear it is very good as well.

CW: mentions of gun violence, death of a sibling/parent
WOW. I had been nervous to start this one for the past few months because it wasn't written in verse like Acevedo's other books and I was worried I wouldn't like it as much. I am happy to report I was very wrong! I could hardly put this book down, staying up late reading until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Phenomenal book, but one warning - do NOT read this without eating first because it will make you so hungry!

Okay, I know this book came out yesterday, but I need more from Jerry Craft ASAP. I truly didn't think Craft could top New Kid, but WOW, was I mistaken. The art is incredible and I loved the inclusion of all of the Easter eggs - super fun. This story tackles friendship and class privilege and a predominantly white school's attempt to diversify and make students of color feel safe. As with New Kid, Craft addresses various microaggressions that the students of color, and especially the Black main characters, face at school.

Soooo, here's the thing. I somehow completely missed that the target audience for this book is Christian women. So while once upon a time I would have technically fit into this demographic, I don't really anymore. I don't really know how to rate this one, since I was expecting something else, but I think this book does do a fine job of discussing online dating from a Christian woman's perspective. It is probably best for young women who have no online dating experience or older women, as the author herself is older and the content is pretty baseline. One thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the frequency with which she mentioned that her ex-husband left her because he is gay. It felt like this was brought up unnecessarily sometimes and it came across as if she was still bitter about this.

CW: bullying, anxiety, OCD, rape
I really enjoyed this book, a coming of age journey that points out the lack of education about asexuality. I'm a big fan of graphic novels for providing an accessible way to learn and this book does that perfectly. I liked that this story was about both mental health and sexual identity. The author provided content notes at the beginning of the book, which is always appreciated.

I could hardly put it down??? This series makes me curse a lot and yet I love it so much.
CW: substance abuse
I don't know many middle grade books that address substance abuse and this one did it fantastically. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

I think this is 4 stars? I was hooked immediately and I really enjoyed the story and the ending, but the middle was pretty slow for me.
