MY FIRST BOOK WRITTEN BY AN AUTISTIC PERSON WITH AN AUTISTIC MAIN CHARACTER! This was some heavy speculative fiction and scifi, possibly a little too heavy for me, but I can't tell you how nice it was to read a book with an authentic autistic narrator. She was unashamed of her neurotype and open about it, and it made me feel so much more seen and understood. Although this book was a little much for me, it will forever hold a huge spot in my heart for being one of the first books I ever truly saw myself in.

Possible Pop Sugar 2020 Prompts: 4 star rating, 3 word title, trans* or nb author, same title as other media but different topic, won an award in 2019

This book was amazing, JVN opens up about so much like his past sexual abuse, sex work, and when he found out he was HIV+. The book is only like 3 hours on audio and hearing him tell the story was AMAZING. Highly highly recommend.

Possible Pop Sugar 2020 Prompts: by or about a journalist, more than 20 letters in the title, only words on the cover, 4 star rating on GoodReads

This book was listed as one of the highest rated books on GoodReads that I hadn't read yet. I was in 5th grade when 9/11 happened, and while I feel like I know the majority of the stories, this was a whole other view. This oral history of 9/11 is extremely intense, but all encompassing. You hear from people who some have passed since, but truly it all comes together to tell one story. I found this book sobering, but a really wonderful tribute to all that happened on that day, good and bad, so that future generations can know what occured and what it felt like.

I’m not exactly sure where to start with “House of Hades”. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed with the Heroes of Olympus series. Don’t get me wrong, I love them dearly and it will always be one of my absolutely favorite series, but I always wanted to see the characters grow more. It took me awhile to get through both “Son of Neptune” and “Mark of Athena”. Not sure if it was the length or because I didn’t sit down and commit myself to actually READING but they did take me significantly longer to get through. But “House of Hades”….oh this book.

The first thing that I LOVED about this book was the dedication and Rick Riordan trolling us all. Because really, he did at the end of “Mark of Athena”. But what the others really lacked was some really good character development. The only reason I could see this being was Riordan maybe? possibly? struggling with how to show character development in third person writing, or was slightly unsure. His other books that I’ve read, Percy Jackson series and some of the Kane Chronicles, were all written in the first person and I felt like I had seen substantial character growth in them. It also could be me, but either way, in this book, Riordan has mastered character development. Maybe he wrote the others to kind of just…make us wait for this, but “Son of Neptune” just kind of felt superficial, with no serious growth, and I spent almost all of “The Lost Hero” just wanting to know where Percy was. But with “House of Hades” it was more like character development on every page which was amazing. Seriously amazing.

I have three words to describe my feelings over this book: Nico Fucking Di Angelo. The rest will be at the blog for SPOILERS.

SO FREAKIN READY FOR HOUSE OF HADES I COULD SCREAM

Possible Pop Sugar 2020 Prompts: written more than 20 books, published in my birthday month (April), 4 star rating on GoodReads, same title as a tv show/movie but different topic.

I was hunting for a light read, and while books 2 & 3 in this series were kind of a let down, this one picked right back up. It's so fun to see who the villain of each book will be, what the new adventure they take will be, and just keep up with the Kingdom Keepers. This focused on "Disney Quest" which doesn't exist anymore, but was fun, and I loved seeing that the GOOD characters were going to pop up too :). Warmed my Disney loving heart.
