THIS BOOK!!!! platonic relationships made as important as romantic relationships >>> poetry! fairytales! angst! nonbinary rep! a fat mc! and beautifully written talk on eating disorders and the reality of living with them. all of this and a romance story to die for. the scenery was gorgeous. every scene felt tangible and real and also like a fairytale just out of reach. i loved this! please go read it <3 also: i loved every single character in this book. they were also so dimensional and lovely and thoughtful and ahhhh also also- this book was sex positive which is so lovely to read on fiction

this book wasn’t necessarily bad- it just also wasn’t great either. the plot was meh, the characters were overall unlikeable and i just wasn’t finding myself that interested in the story,,,

when i picked it up, i was excited for some good rep featuring adopted, non-verbal and skirt wearing boys but even this missed the mark.

most key points of the story were entirely glossed over. whenever there was an interesting scene, the author decided this was a perfect time for the scene to fade to black. even most of their first date and arguments and getting to know each other- it was all glossed over for the less important parts.

i really wanted to enjoy this but besides the book itself being aesthetically beautiful, it didn’t really have a lot going for it.

i also found the usage of slurs ridiculously off-putting. they were thrown around almost every other page and i can’t stand reading them as it is. as well as that, religion played a much bigger part in this than i expected and not in a good way.

i know this review seems overly negative but i did  still sort of enjoy the book! the writing was easy and it was a quick book to fly through- just not if you’re looking for something of much sustenance. the issues it tackles are real and important and having this as a stepping stone to understanding them was good just not perfectly executed.

(edit: i lied, i don’t like this book at all)

so so sweet in every possible way. full of incredible rep and feelings and a found family that will make you weep. it was beautiful and i’m so excited to test the recipes! this did give me a bit of a gender crisis tbh and i’m definitely going to go research being agender a little more because something about syd just,, fit. this book was emotive and scrapes you raw in a very delicate and tender way. i loved this. i loved the small magic and it reminded me a tiny bit of waitress (the musical which is so good too!) in the way that everyone was so passionate and thoughtful in their baking. i loved all of these characters and harley was an angel. ahhhhh this is so good!!!!!

a strong focus on mental health. not really a plot but the writing was gorgeously lyrical, and the characters were so simply queer that it warmed my heart. a v quick and light read! i really enjoyed it :)

i loved this so much. i cried when it ended for no reason other than i wasn’t ready to let go of this book and these characters yet.

mickey might be one of my favourite characters ever written. i see so much of myself in him, within his guilt and his heart and his filtered passion. his depression is prominent, it is part of him but it does not become him. his queerness was intertwined so carefully and casually but still with such gentle hands. his coming out scene meant a lot to me. in all it’s simplicity and in all the ways it wasn’t quite simple.

this book is raw and emotional but also so comforting and warm.

also sports gays! they have never failed me!

side sapphic relationship and side polyam relationship with a heavy focus on depression and coping and processing. wowowow i cant quite put it into words well enough yet. i’m still left a little cut open after reading this. one of be of my faves of this year, easily.

my only complaint is that i felt there was still room for it to be developed, with the characters, their relationships and their pathway. it felt almost abruptly cut off and i just wished for a little more to it. but it was also perfect??? i’m conflicted

this book was such an original concept and i really enjoyed reading this! it was hard hitting and so beautifully written. the whole book was a metaphor entangled in whimsical fantasy and creatures that come out of paintings. pet is a book focused on monsters that hide in plain sight and how difficult it can be to find them, even when you know they’re there. beautiful. powerful. and an essential read.

a compassionate story on grief and learning to live alongside it. this book was heartfelt, full of emotion and utterly captivating. but also, a little disappointing in comparison to what i’d expected. grief, like most things, is completely different for everyone and liam’s journey was evidence of that. however, i didn’t really feel connected to the story or it’s characters at all throughout, even if i enjoyed the writing and the story itself. it was simple and yet still felt so distant. there were so many elements i enjoyed from liams use of he/they pronouns to the emily dickinson references and i did actually enjoy this, i promise! and i think everyone should read this! but it also felt like it could have been so much more but i know that’s probably just my opinion <3
