Gives a great overview of how much white feminism operates from a position of power, and how their feminism is not inclusive for all BIPOC people. It opened my eyes to some issues I have not thought about (my privileges shielded me). Exactly the book I needed to bridge racism and feminism together.
Feminism has to be thought intersectional, it does not work otherwise!
The author said it, and I say it as well: If you are white, this book does not say you are bad. Not all white people are white feminists or have to stay it. Recognizing how the current systems support racism and discrimination against non white-upper/middle-class women is the first step (this also excludes LGBTQ+, people with disability, and so many more). We can all contribute to this world being a fairer space. Sometimes this starts with shutting up, listen, and follow non-white people.
I am not perfect either, we all got to learn! It does not stop with reading this book.
Many of the low-star reviews on this book do not make sense. It is white fragility these people are speaking from. Check your privileges!

Great book! Brings the past three hundred years and how the white men affected the Ghanian people closer. The idea of the characters was great, very interesting people and heart-touching stories!
I think I don't love books with many, seemingly unconnected, characters as much as other do. It is just so tough to read and take away a clear story. Yes, this one was about Ghana, Africa, Colonization, Slavery, and many more. But that is just so broad.
For me, this books joins "Girl, Woman, Other" and "Dream Country" that both had great intentions and beautifully humanized an important issue, but failed to deliver a compelling story past that. Maybe I should lower my expectations.

I have been trying to read other books on complexity before, but think this is a book everyone should start with. Compared to what I learned in the "Complex Systems" course in my first year at university, goes this book more into technical and computational depth. I really enjoyed learning about mathematical concepts and simulation principles of complexity and how they are applied to concrete problems.
It took me a couple of weeks to read through this book, and I am glad. This way I could reflect on single chapters for a few days and see how they apply to my work and daily life. A few ideas were also quite new and complicated for me to understand (but incredibly interesting!), so I read slow.
I am so glad my university introduced me to complexity science. It has helped me in getting my current position, and I really hope I will one day be at the Santa Fee Institute for a project!
While reading this book I found out that my friend is currently an intern at SFI under Melanie Mitchell, how cool is that?
Fingers crossed one day I will be too :)

I did not know how much I needed a great book like this. My inner scientist and space enthusiast loved it a lot! Great writing and story!
Multi-layered perspective on racism in Germany from the perspective of a daughter of a white German man and an African-American woman.
Looking into racism from various angles, gives this book also a big intersectional value. She shows the reader that the world is not just good and bad, by uncovering underlying flaws in the system, historic developments, and individual counterproductive behavior.
Alice writes smart and with a lot of empathy. She showed me many new perspectives and I highly recommend every German-speaking person to read this! Especially if you are white!

I did not read it thoroughly but had a look at the self assessment parts and some stories. I tried to read it from a feminist perspective and didn't really think about me personally which is why I left more confused than I arrived. Growing up is weird, I am really not ready yet!...
This book gives a good overview of different considerations one should make before having a baby.
I missed a part about alternative family concepts. I also wanted more information on what could go wrong and when it is important to get professional help rather than "everything will be fine somehow as long as you talk it through".
The author tried to be nonjudgmental about some aspects and incorporated scientific background which I appreciate. I sometimes wished for more in depth considerations and clear advice.

Mega spannend was dabei rauskommt.

I needed this book! Among all the self-help books, this is finally one that takes into account the challenges and nuances of being a part of one (or more) marginalized group(s).
