This book - and RBG herself - is so amazing. I loved reading about her life and all she has overcome and accomplished. I am amazed that her physical fitness is so outstanding at her age when I can barely do a push-up. And I admire her grit and determination in incrementally moving us toward progress.
Such a great read about race in Britain and deconstructing white privilege. A MUST READ for all white allies.
I have had PL Travers' original version of Mary Poppins on my to-read list since Saving Mr. Banks and learning how different her version was allegedly from the movie...Must admit, I prefer the movie. The overt classism (understandably part of the times, but even so) was particularly irksome. I did not enjoy this book much. Also, Mary Poppins is NOT a likable character. She is rude, condescending, and downright nasty to her charges much of the time. It is not endearing.
Wow. This book is such an expert exploration of adolescent feelings. Depression and joy and crushes and relationships and that question of Why that permeates through life, but perhaps peaks in adolescence - why are we here?
4/5: Whoa. This book was so intense. Emotional and impossible to put down. The book does a decent job of depicting the horror and intensity of a school shooting, and showing the multitude of factors that may be part of the picture. I could not put it down. I would have liked a decent exploration into the characters, but I think - for such a short book - it does a decent job of exploring their lives. I would have liked some sections written from the perspective of the shooter, though.
Cute children's book. Amazingly, I'd never read any Boxcar Children books, but this one made a nice palate cleanser between more intense books.
F*ck Feelings: One Shrink's Practical Advice for Managing All Life's Impossible Problems
Michael I. Bennett, Sarah Bennett
This book was funny, with a caustic wit and unapologetic tone. However; while enjoyable, I had a lot of struggles with some of the content. While some was good advice, I felt it was a little too hardline. Also, the book had a highly disparaging section about people with borderline personality disorder, which was irritating. Like anything, take what you like and leave the rest with this one.
This was such a great read. It was funny and the narrator was so real and authentic, and there were high and low points and it was just so....aware. I loved it.
