Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol—a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

the reveal of the theme of the 75th Hunger Games was heartbreaking.

this book wasn't as good as the first book, but the are some iconic moments.

way better than i remembered. I honestly thought that this book might've been one of those many, many terrible YA dystopian books we all got. But no, this was the original and the better ones.

» PLOT «
A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.

I once wrote that I was stupid for not really liking or understanding how books with ghosts/imaginary stuff works. (See: The Astonishing Color of After) And this isn't that much different, other than the fact that I just didn't care about this book. I mainly read this because of the hype it gets and because of how short it was.

» READABILITY «
fast but boring read

» CHARACTERS «
don't care about any of them. also did not like how they were referred to as "liars," cringe.

» WRITING «
I don't really notice bad or good writing style unless I really focus on the writing. I was tipped off to how some people didn't like the writing style, and that made me pay attention more.

The writing isn't my favorite. It's very short and abrupt, less beautiful and not very smooth.

» OVERALL «
i've heard that people either love or hate this book, and i'm leaning towards hate.

» PLOT «
Following a new pandemic, the characters of the Lunar Chronicles find themselves quarantined together.

Why were they all quarantined together? Literally why.

» READABILITY «
It was short, so that made things easier.

» CHARACTERS «
The characters are good, but that's not because of this novella.

» WRITING «
The writing was weak, not as good as her other works.

» OVERALL «
This was unnecessary, and just not a good revisiting of one of my favorite series.

Evelyn has lived a glamorous, scandalous, and private life. But now, after a lifetime, she is ready to reveal it all. Summoned to Evelyn's luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the '80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love.

why did she have all those marriages? for "love" and for pr reasons. that's it.

» READABILITY «
did not hate reading this, but i did not enjoy it.

» CHARACTERS «
I simply do not care about Evelyn or any of her partners. I also do not care about Monique. I really don't care about anyone in this book.

» WRITING «
the writing is fine, just wish it was more glamorous or flowery like the perception of Evelyn's life.

» OVERALL «
considering the praise and the fact that some thought this could be a classic, it could've been better. was kinda disappointed at the contents and writing style for this kind of praise.

Hidden in the depths of eighteenth-century London, a secret apothecary shop caters to an unusual kind of clientele. Women across the city whisper of a mysterious figure named Nella who sells well-disguised poisons to use against the oppressive men in their lives. But the apothecary's fate is jeopardized when her newest patron, a precocious twelve-year-old, makes a fatal mistake, sparking a string of consequences that echo through the centuries.

I honestly did not care for the present timeline. I just didn't care about Caroline or her storyline around her love life or

Grown-up Meg, tomboyish Jo, timid Beth, and precocious Amy. The four March sisters couldn't be more different. But with their father away at war, and their mother working to support the family, they have to rely on one another. Whether they're putting on a play, forming a secret society, or celebrating Christmas, there's one thing they can't help wondering: Will Father return home safely?

I actually love everything that occurred in this book. The plot was great.

I was actually gonna read this before watching the new movie, but that clearly didn't happen. I honestly think the book (like Pride and Prejudice) benefitted from me already knowing the story due to the movie.

» PLOT «
1984 is set in a dystopian society where the Party and Big Brother control everything. In this society, there is perpetual war, memories are altered, and there is always a "deficiency" of luxuries and goods.

The idea and plot of this book is amazing, and like I said before, "The story is both exciting and haunting."

» READABILITY «
This was harder to read the second time, but enjoyable nonetheless.

» CHARACTERS «
The main characters in this book are fascinating, and they all have distinct motives and roles to play.

» WRITING «
The writing of this book is a bit dense, but it does a great job at telling the story.

» OVERALL «
While I like this book less on reread, I still think this was a great book.
