I was interested in this book because the main character works at a magazine - my field. Usually, this means I love or hate a book, depending on the accuracy of the work.

So, when you see I DNF and gave it 1*, you may think it is because the representation of the journalism in this book is wrong. But I have no idea about that, I did not reach a point where there was talk about producing articles.

That why DNF and 1*? Because I really cannot stand the main character. I just really really dislike her, how she thinks about other people and about certain types of jobs. (That last one is even hypocritical in my point of view).

I was at page 76 and felt like UGH. So, I send a text to Evelyn, who had finished this book speedreading because she felt the same way, if it gets any better. She told me no. The person stays this way, and the plot stays as awful. I cannot stand reading this, and with the argument of so many books so little time, I'm putting this aside. My reading time is to valuable to spent it on books I don't like reading.

BUT I do think that if you like chicklits and you're 20 pages in and do not hate her, you might enjoy this book.

I'm stuck at 40%, and I've decided to not continuing this book. I feel reluctance every time I have reading time and this book is eyeing me.

Some people have trouble with this book because of the chronical pain issue or the racists thing. For more info on that I advice you to read other peoples reviews or google on it. I don;t feel like elaborating on that because that isn't my biggest problem with this book. That might sound a bit harsh because of course I hate racism and when bad representation of something, but those were not the reasons for me to stop reading this book. They were much more simple.

I have zero connection with the main characters. Zero. I don't like the people. I don't like their actions.

And I think the world building could have been much much better, if you know what I mean. I feel like the writers just throws some terms and names at me and I need to figure it all out myself. And it is a scifi-world and usually I'm easy to please with those, so the fact that this dos not speak to me AT ALL says even more.

But, I also hear people really liking this book, especially later on. But I just could not put myself to it. But I do recommend you to try this book for yourself if you are interested. It is just not for me right now.

Maybe I've read to many great books lately. Maybe it is because I have so many great books waiting for me on my immediate TBR-pile. Maybe this book is never right for me. I don't know. I only know that right now I feel that life is too short and time is too precious to read books I do not enjoy reading.

I little case of this is me, not the book. I do understand why people love this, but it is not for me. I don't feel any connection with the characters or the world. I do not really enjoy reading this. I do also not not-like this, I just feel nothing while plowing through this book (that is how it feels for me). I heard that this book just keeps going on the same way, so if I did not really enjoyed it at this point (near halfway), it is not likely I'm going to have a chance of heart. I'm gonna listen to this advice because so many books so little time. I'm a bit sad because I wanted to enjoy this, but better luck with the next book I pick up I hope!

So many books, so little time dus DNF. Maar heb wel een goed idee van het sfeertje en de setting en dat is als boekverkoper wel fijn :)

This book is very usefull and has lots of practical tips for science writers

I really liked this book, it was a good read. I liked how messed up the story became, and how everything turned out. There were some unexpected plottwist, and I always like that.

T really enjoyed reading this. I don't recall reading Jill Mansell before, but I liked it so I will read more from her :)

I REALLY love the IgNobel prices. It is a great way so entertain people and show them science. the research awarded with an IgNobel price makes people laugh, but then think because the value for science or society is explained.

That last thing, that is what I'm missing in this book. That is why this book is disappointing for me, or at least, not meeting my expectations. But it is really funny at some times. I do have to admit I skimmed or even skipped some parts because it did not sounded very interesting to me. All the pieces are really short like 3 pages or so, so it was not a big part of the book I skipped.

Maybe the short article-style bits in this book is the problem, or maybe the author just wants to be funny and lost touch with the science communication value of the IgNobel prizes.
