Truly a classic tale of true love and high adventure. One of the fanciest books I own too. I read every single page, even the double introduction (the one from the 25th anniversary edition was included). Seeing Goldman’ color commentary scattered throughout the story was a welcome addition. It added comedy to the true love and adventure. And the 30th edition including some amazing illustrations.

I’m not normally a huge fan of non fantasy post apocalyptic works. But Station Eleven is an exception to that rule. Sometimes you read a book fast because you just want to be done with it. And sometimes you read a book fast because you just can’t put it down. This book was definitely the latter. The time line hopping throughout the book helps to vividly contrast modern life with the post pandemic world.

This 2014 bestseller is a chilling, almost prophetic narrative about the world. A viral pandemic sweep thru the world in a matter of days bringing to an end life as we know it. Twenty years later, a roving band of thespians and musicians that travels through scattered settlements bringing with them memories of the past through their performances. While there is usually safety in numbers, this group is about to find out that numbers don’t mean anything to the Prophet.

: I found myself a little disappointed reading this book. It was well written but I didn’t feel it was really the true crime genre. To me, this felt more like a memoir about a man’s love for Savannah and fascination with the people he encountered there with some intrigue thrown in here and there. The cast of characters are interesting and engaging but I felt I knew more about the Lady Chablis at the end than I did about the actual crime.

Savannah is still very much an old southern town. Even in the 1980s, tradition is observed with reverence and strictly adhered to. It should come as no shock that the shots that rang out from the study of one James Williams would cause quite the stir at all levels of Savannah society. One of their most prominent and influential citizens is now on trial for murder.

This book delves into the plight of the aging in modern society while regaling is with memories of adventure, love, and loss. I did get a bit angry reading this book. Definite trigger warning for mental health issues, animals cruelty, and domestic violence. With all that, book is a read that is worth it.

I enjoyed the rawness and reality of the book. It was also written in an interesting interview style format that kept it flowing but also allowed you to hear the different voices, see the differences of opinion, and put together multiple versions of the story to draw your own conclusions. This is an ingenious way to get the reader more involved in the story.

Whoever the fan is that approached Stephen King at a book tour signing event and asked “whatever happened to that kid from The Shining?”, I have one thing to say. THANK YOU
Doctor Sleep is the sequel we didn’t know we wanted. Now an adult, Daniel Torrence is suffering from many of the demons of his past. The shining has stayed with him all these years and doesn’t help matters. Like his father, he found a liquid solution. But all that is about to change thanks to a little girl that’s as bright a lighthouse. He’s also about to discover there’s much more evil in the world than he ever imagined.
The first time I tried to read this book, I stalled out. When I picked it up for April Adaptations (an obvious next choice after finishing The Shining), I cannot for the life of me remember why it was a DNF the first time around. This is more than just a thriller. It’s a story of redemption and a classic good vs evil story with a twist. And as someone who’s daydreamed about what happened to her favorite literary characters, it’s nice to know what happened to one of them.

I have never been one for horror but give me a good thriller any day and I’m a happy reader. The Shining made me a bit of a horror convert.

This time around, rereading The Shining, I got even more thrills and chills than I did the first time around. Definitely a mistake to be reading it alone and in the dark of my backyard at night because I could almost hear and feel the thumping of the roque mallet. I mean I knew it was my dog wandering around but still had to find some sitcom to watch so I could sleep

They happen to be very fond of their 6 millennia on Earth thank you very much. Good thing someone lost the Antichrist

It is hard not to feel the chill up your spine that people describe feeling in the presence of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille. The man with no scent of his own obsessed with all smells. Then he finds what he deems to be the perfect scent and it transforms him into a murderer with no remorse. His single driving force is to possess this scent for himself. This story describes in detail his thoughts, acts, and feelings. It’s hard not to feel unsettled while reading and even after you’ve finished. You just spent 255 pages delving into the story of a murderer.
