The Shining
by Stephen King
I have never been one for horror but give me a good thriller any day and I’m a happy reader. The Shining made me a bit of a horror convert.
Danny “Doc” Torrence is a 5 year old with more perception than most. You could even say he shines. His father, Jack Torrence, a recovering alcoholic, is running out of options. He takes a job as the off season caretaker at the infamous Overlook Hotel in the high Colorado mountains. It’s his last chance to save his failing marriage and earn money for his family. That is, if they can survive.
This time around, rereading The Shining, I got even more thrills and chills than I did the first time around. Definitely a mistake to be reading it alone and in the dark of my backyard at night because I could almost hear and feel the thumping of the roque mallet. I mean I knew it was my dog wandering around but still had to find some sitcom to watch so I could sleep
