Danielle Hawkins at her best :) 4.5 stars

I love the current mystery thriller phase, and this one is well worth a read. It's slow and very kiwi, and it's very very good to read a book like this set in my adopted home country.

I'm so sad to say I was a bit disappointed by this. It's not just that we are left waiting for answers, but that it feels way too long and complicated. The search by the sisters is quite aggressive, and I felt the whole book could have been cut down and tightened up.

I was really sad to read of Lucinda's death and hope there will be a last book to finish the story. My sympathies to her family - her books have been wonderful to read, even if this might not be her best one.

Hmmm... I was a little disappointed by this. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed it. But I was expecting more. Maybe all the hype and amazing reviews raised my expectations too much, but it was just an average to good fantasy novel to me. I didn't feel emotionally involved at all.

I've already requested the next book from the library so I will read more, but I'm not desperate to know what happens next, just curious. 3.5 stars but not good enough for 4.

Although this is obviously fiction, it seems sort of strange to label it as such given the current stage of the world mid pandemic... It was written just before Covid, and it makes me wonder how it would have read if we'd not entered a pandemic. Fascinating, emotional, and scarily real.

2021 - Re-reading because I needed something light and cheery.

2014 - I really enjoyed this - started it late at night and finished it the next morning. A very Kiwi romance, very sweet and with a rather lovely hero - who wouldn't like a handsome All Black?
