I bought this book off the BOGO50% sale table at B&N a few months ago.

While on a road trip I decided to subject my husband and son to the audiobook version.

I was surprised. This legal thriller was good!

I wasn’t really shocked with the plot - anyone who reads a decent amount of thrillers could see the twist coming a mile away. But this one was executed well.

I enjoyed the back-and-forth POV between mom’s journal and daughter’s present day.

My only complaint was the ending. I hoped for a little more finality or closure with the dad.

Six Scorched Roses
Crowns of Nyaxia Novella
By Carissa Broadbent
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

OOKKAAYY
This didn’t feel like a novella.
There was so much happening in these 154 pages.

The story was GOOD. The characters were GOOD.

“You want more than I can give you," I whispered.
"I can't imagine that ever being true," he murmured. "Because I want only you, Lilith. Whatever of you l can have. I'll take one night. One hour. One minute. Whatever you want to give me. I'll have it."

Oh. My. Heart.

Bring on book 3. I’m ready.

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie
By Marie Benedict
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have always loved Agatha Christie.

But I never knew about her devious plot to embarrass her fool of a husband, Archie Christie.

I couldn’t love her (Agatha) more if I tried.

If I share much more, I will spoon the fun.

If you’re into Historical fiction or Agatha Christie, go read this book!!

Quick one-day mystery read.

Holy actual crap. This book MADE ME MAD.

There were times while I was reading it that I had to close it, step away, and take a deep breath.

Thank goodness the ending redeemed all the bad actors. Because the righteous indignation I felt for fictional characters was real.

It’s been a while since a book brought out some real emotions. Well done, Lisa!

It was well written and fast paced. I enjoyed it.
sad slow-paced

I’m just going to rip off the bandaid- this was not for me.

I enjoyed What Alice Forgot and The Husband’s Secret and even Nine Perfect Strangers.

But since her tv success, it feels like everything she writes is made-for-tv.
It’s great if you like that sort of thing. I rather enjoy reading a story meant to be read.

The book itself wasn’t bad. It was thought-provoking and created quite the conversation in my house. Would you want to know how and when you will die? Do you believe in seemingly otherworldly abilities?

This was gripping and it wasn’t a page turner. I finished it quickly because I needed to be done. I just wanted to move on from Cherry and her weirdness.

Also, the ending is bad.

This was the story of two siblings who go missing, 14 years apart.
One disappeared from the area surrounding the family home. One went missing from the summer camp that the family owns.

It reads more mystery than thriller.

This book is not an “easy read”, it required me to really pay attention to keep track of all (6!) of the narrators, and the multiple timelines.

I do NOT recommend anyone try the audio version. I think it would be harder to keep track of everything. The beginning of each chapter lays out the time in which it takes place, which is nice in print.

This book touches on the roles of women in the 50’s through the 70’s. Without giving away my BIG feelings that don’t really apply to the plot, I will just say I felt uncomfortable and sad at times.

I appreciate that the end of the book left no questions unanswered.

I couldn't sleep last night and someone on bookstagram recommended this quick novella... I'm not quite sure what I think about it.
It was written well, but there is more to this story that I feel like l'm missing. I know this is 1.5 in the Aspen Ridge series but it doesn't feel like that's all to Wes and Lily's story.
The spice was spicy.

Spark of the Everflame
by Penn Cole
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a quick, cozy fantasy.

There are layers to uncover, and thankfully I have Kindle Unlimited because the next hardcover won’t be released until December 2024.

There are 4 books available on KU. I don’t know if I loved book 1 enough to jump in to the next books right away but I know I’ll get to them eventually.

I want to know what happens! And I want to watch the FMC develop into a badass. It’s in there. I see it.

Sleep Tight
by J.H. Markert
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The levels of mystery and intrigue surrounding some of the characters was SO WELL DONE.

The struggles and humanity of the characters was captured in such a way that you wonder if this was a based-on-true story.

The reason this wasn’t 5-stars for me is because, and this is a personal preference don’t come at me, I don’t like child abduction stories.

This one has some supernatural vibes but not ghost story-esque.

The good guys (mostly) win in the end and I can SLEEP TIGHT with that.

End of Story
by A.J. Finn

I loved Woman in the Window.

But this was a big miss for me.

I started with the Audible version because I wanted to knock it out while also getting things done around the house.

But it was SO hard to follow that I just decided to sit down and read it, after the 8th chapter.

That wasn’t any better.

It was scattered and very hectic.

Disappointed.
