I found myself growing more and more in love with Apollo as the books progressed. I think the final battle and how the action scenes was set up in the book was just wonderful. I loved how often Apollo and other Demi-gods paid their respects to Jason. As them, I still haven’t processed the loss. I am interested to see if we will get more prophets but I do think if Uncle Rick decides to not write in the world again. The Tower of Nero was a great ending to wonderful start.

Ohhhhh. I really enjoyed the pacing and setting of this book. I also loved the fact that a talking gargoyle was in the book. I read reviews of people not liking Brixton and that is something I do not understand. Yes, he was annoying at points but he is also a teenager and he care for the people in his life dearly. I have a love hate relationship with his friends but I am glad that they support him. The main character his I am most intrigued by. I can't wait to learn about her life and how she lived in the last 300 years. History has always appealed to me and alchemy as well. I want to read book two to see if the pace or content changes or get more challenging. I pray that I complete this series this year.

The plot was slow moving and Detective Reed made me not enjoy the subplot of romance as much as I wanted to. I will say reading a book that has foods from Louisiana was enjoyable even though there were some I never heard of. The twists in the story really saved it for me. I live for a good twist or twists.

Every time you get attached to a character something tragic happens. The way this volume discuss abortion was miscarriage was admirable. Not often does people talk about nuances surrounding miscarriages.

This volume was jam packed with knowledge that could lead to impactful discussions about body, autonomy, religion, faith, and death. When people say “comics don’t have substance.” I will steer them to the Saga series!

Spoilers!  Spoilers!  Spoilers!

Oh! Oh! This one was bittersweet. Poor Kurti! I felt for that character and Hazel the most. Hazel is such a resilient little girl. To have been through so much trauma in a short span of her life. It was heartbreaking how many people want to break her family apart and destroy them. I wish things didn’t turn out the way that they did but this book reminds you to be careful who comes into your life. Because grief takes on many shapes.

Also I am unsure if it’s this volume or the previous one but I have loved the growth that has happened in this comic series and the introduction of a trans identifying and fluid character.

Soo beautifully written. This love story mixed in with Tragedy was a good read. Even when so many things deciding your faith…you forget that it’s up to. I found while reading this book that even in death love is tested and not honoured.

Just so you are aware there some outdated terms in this book. The pace of this book really made this book a great read for me. As always, what a thoughtfully and historical provoking novel. I loved that even in the mystery of the plot, one of characters never lets you forgot about the injustices that was happening at this time. I think having an activist and a person who prefers to not being involved as the two main character was a great choice for SMG.

As I continued to read I kept thinking to myself, this sounds like something I remember reading. Only to find out this time period is of the Dirty War in Mexico. Which is reason 48484 why I love historical fiction novels. And love it more when SMG writes them.
